Description

Still free with no ads! Be your own guitar tech.

Whether you want to set your guitar’s intonation, create cent-perfect custom tunings to use with a capo and acoustic, or just tune up and play, PitchSlap is the tool to use.

There are three different display styles and a great selection of pre-set tunings to choose from. Tunings are organised with your guitars and completely configurable right down to cent adjustment for each string. There’s an intonation tool that provides a visualisation of your guitar's tuning right across the fretboard and you can simulate changes before you make them. You can even customise tunings to match your guitar and playing style.

Usage examples

Just want to tune up – pick a tuner style and tune up, not much more to say on that one.

Set the intonation – use the intonation tool to record the notes across the whole fretboard, simulate the changes and adjust the bridge. Rinse and repeat until you reach pitch perfect nirvana (or as close as you can get).

Get the most out of a guitar with a fixed bridge – use the intonation tool to record the fretboard and adjust the tuning using the simulator. Aim to get the best average response from the frets you use the most. Once you’re done save the tuning to use with that guitar.

Tune for a capo – use the intonation tool to create a tuning for the open strings that you know will work once the capo is on, save it and you’re good to go.

Features
• Three tuning displays – a ring tuner for pin sharp accuracy, a classic meter and a simple tuner for when you just want to tune up quickly.
• Fretboard analysis – record and view the accuracy of every fret
• Simulation – simulate changes to intonation and tuning before you make them
• Unlimited tunings – all tunings can be adjusted down to one cent
• Unlimited number of guitars – save your guitars and create unique tunings optimised for them
• Comprehensive Preset Tunings – To start you off you get an acoustic, electric and bass guitar along with preset tunings for each.

What’s New

Version 1.0.10

The only change to the layout is a warning which shows if the user has denied access to the device microphone.
Under the hood there are quite a few changes so hopefully you should find that overall the tuner is a bit less twitchy which should make it easier to get accurate results.
It would be great to get some feedback on how the app is working for you. simon@pitchslap.rocks.

Doesn't work through phone mic

Great idea, nice interface. App does not pick up notes through microphone in either the tuner or intonation mode which, as another reviewer noted, makes the app basically useless. Hope they figure it out would be nice tool.

Developer Response ,

Sorry you're having trouble with the app, I assume that you granted access to the mic when the app opened for the first time.
Working with the one user who contacted me directly, they managed to fix this by uninstalling the app, rebooting the phone, installing again and allowing access to the mic when prompted.
We've been looking into this problem which is affecting small number of users, but as it doesn't produce a crash report it is difficult to get to the bottom of what is happening. Feel free to contact me at simon@pitchslap.rocks. Thanks.

No good

I really wanted to like this app. But it can’t accurately detect what string I’m playing on a guitar already in tune, much less help get tuned up. I’ll change my mind if the developer can explain how to make it work. Otherwise, pass this one up.

Developer Response ,

Sorry to hear the app's not working for you. I'd really like to understand what the issue is, if you contact me by email I'll do my best to resolve the issue.

Update: We haven't been able to replicate this problem ourselves, if anyone else is having similar issues it would be great if you could contact us through the website.
