Read a few of the reviews:

The conversational tone of the app and sequential nature has really accelerated the learning process for me, and the supplementary educational elements concerning Thai customs, history, and other points of context show that the developer really understands that learning a new language is really inseparable from encountering a complete culture. -mmrrkk

Checked out many apps but this is the first app which really takes you through lessons step by step... easy to follow and easy to learn. -Ralf

This app is absolutely excellent. I speak 4 other languages aside from Thai, and thus far this has been one of the best overall language apps I have seen. It’s extremely thorough and written in simple, non-technical language so even absolute beginners can make sense of a very difficult language. The quizzes at the end of each lesson are great too! -Tokyo Teacher

Been in Thailand for 9 years. On and off learning Thai and this has been a great help. I feel it explained the rules to me very well and made it easier to read more! -jr7diving

Which version of Pocket Thai is right for you?

Pocket Thai Master contains 38 lessons and teaches reading, speaking, and culture. It is ideal for serious students and anyone living and/or working in Thailand for 6 months or longer.

Pocket Thai Speaking contains 22 lessons and teaches the most important aspects of speaking and culture. Ideal for travelers and some long term visitors that want to learn the basics without a major investment of their time.

What Pocket Thai Master is NOT:

This is not another app made by a company that gets a list of the most common vocabulary words in 20+ languages and creates a bunch of apps with simple picture/word matching games.  I spent years living in Thailand and studying Thai including reading many grammar books, creating and reviewing thousands of flashcards, and having lots of conversations with friends and acquaintances.  This app contains lengthy grammar explanations and cultural nuances that other programs don't include, because their authors probably don't even speak the languages of the apps that they create.

Best Thai Learning Resource I’ve Found So Far

I’m just getting started learning Thai, and this app, despite its modest trappings, has proven to be easily the most instructive, well structured, systematic, consistent, and humane approach I’ve found (short of soliciting training from actual live teachers, which I haven’t done yet).

The developer clearly put a lot of love and thought into this, and has a clear knack for structuring the learning process in a way where the systems and rules of thai are laid out consistently, and explained with both clarity and precision. The transcription system used here also makes more sense to me than any of the others i’ve encountered so far (some of the others really bear no resemblance to how the words actually sound in Thai as far as i’m concerned!).

On top of all this, the conversational tone of the app and sequential nature has really accelerated the learning process for me, and the supplementary educational elements concerning Thai customs, history, and other points of context show that the developer really understands that learning a new language is really inseparable from encountering a complete culture. All of this has been very welcome for me and has accelerated my learning process.

I don’t normally write reviews when prompted by an app, but this one was very polite in making its request. This app is not only a clear labor of love but also simply the best I’ve found so far for helping me learn Thai.

This really helps me understand Thai right down to the basics. It’s very easy to follow, and I love the quizzes! Thai isn’t really taught much from where I’m am, so having this app really helps out. It’s thoroughly goes through everything and it’s worth the money for people who are serious about learning Thai. This is an extraordinarily useful tool and I love using it! Thank you for creating this app, it really aids in my language learning journey! ขอบคุณนะคะ!

Fantastic, cumbersome navigation, a little buggy

It’s a great app, with a few flaws.
It’s difficult to navigate within the sections, other than paging forwards or back. If you leave off in the middle of a section, the app forgets your place: you have to start at the beginning and then page forwards.

I wish I could bookmark pages. I find myself screenshotting useful pages for later review. I wish there was a downloadable PDF (minus the interaction), just because it’d be easier to navigate.

It’s a tiny bit buggy. It locked up on me once. More commonly, the audio won’t play immediately. Hitting an audio link repeatedly causes the audio to play multiple times, overlapping like an echo. So: first nothing, then echoed audio. That’d be easy to fix.

Overall it seems like a fine resource, and I’m learning a lot.
