PocketSmith Sidekick 4+

Update 01July- I have seen a lot of development with the app and the website over the last few months. I am changing my review to update the hard work of the team with the option to increase the star rating further once I have time to look over all the features. Thank you for the hard work!

The PocketSmith website is not user friendly, but after a few days of trial and error I was able to get my accounts and budget together. I was HOPING the app would allow me to put in transaction while I am out and give me a snapshot of where I am in my budget... it doesn’t. It doesn’t even update real time to tell my my correct balance. I’ll be using another app to track and if pocketsmith doesn’t fix their app I’ll be moving to a new product when my membership ends.

We have just added the ability to add cash transactions to the app. Did you know about the Budget section of the app? The Budget section shows the current snapshot of your budget. If you want a different budget snapshot, please email us at feedback@pocketsmith.com with the details that you want to see.

The whole point (for me) of wanting to have a mobile app is so that I can manually enter transactions while I'm on the go so I can snap a picture of the receipt and know that I have it logged and an covered. I hate carrying receipts and without being able to manually enter transactions on the go, I'm entirely left up to automated bank transactions to populate. And actually, I opted to turn off automatic uploading. It is more convenient to do it automatically but one of the biggest personal benefits of using a service like this is for me to be actively, consistently engaged and aware of each transaction and to see how that's effecting my cash flow forecast. I've really enjoyed manually entering my transactions each morning.

But DESPERATELY waiting for the mobile app to allow me to do this in the fly. The mobile version of the website is responsive and is pretty much impossible to navigate efficiently on a phone. But....I do LOVE the website on a computer!

Hi Keith, we have just added the ability to add cash transactions from the app. This is available just for cash transactions at the moment, in order to prevent duplicate transactions from being manually added and imported from bank feeds or bank files. If you want to add transactions to non-cash accounts and don't mind these accounts being grouped incorrectly within net worth, you can change your accounts to the 'Cash' account type and they will then be available to add transactions to these accounts from within the app. We are looking at adding the ability to upload pictures for a future version.

Before this iteration, I didn’t use the app for anything except categorizing expenses on the fly. Now, the app is a whole lot better. There’s actually a dashboard. There are a few features I’d still like to see added (search your transactions, edit your budget, click on an expense category and see what all has counted against it), but this was a step in the right direction.

It is great to hear that this update has made the app more useful for you. We are now working on the next updates! One of the next versions will have the ability to see the transactions for a category.
