I would rate a five star, but I much prefer the old version. I came back to this app after a long break because I never downloaded it on my new phone, and it’s very different. I miss the simplicity of the box design. It was so much easier and pleasing to read the poems when instead of it just being a bland post where you have to click “Read more”, each poem was placed on a customizable box and when you scrolled through, you saw the entire poem. I almost feel like it’s not even worth using anymore. Also, when I’m deleting poems, there is a LOT of lag. Additionally, as I said before I have come back to this app after using it a very long while ago, and I’m using the same account. But what’s really odd is that I can’t change my bio, also knows as the “About me” section. I can edit it but there is no way to recede my keyboard and find a button to save it, and if I just click back out, it’s still my bio from before.
The death of poetry

I’ve been using Poetizer for most of the duration of its existence. I take writing short content very seriously as it is my full time job. The new payed subscription base of the app is gross. Any artist will agree. Paying 2 dollars just to type is absolutely ridiculous. It’s a sign the owners of the app have lost touch with what poetry means. Words are free. As a social media notes app it is absolutely stupid to require poets to pay money when they likely will not reap any return. I’ve been a user and avid fan. I have spread the word about your app several times. Today I frankly feel betrayed. This is the opposite of what the message has always been. Publication is one thing but typing and commenting behind a paywall is gross and I hope the repercussions of it bare you burdens. As a poet hearing feedback from fellow writers is what is sometimes most important and now you have taken the voice and the pen from the author and limited their outreach for a measly 2 dollars a month. Sounds more like a business than a community. Don’t make this permanent. The idea of publishing and promoting pieces and books should be paywalled but not the basic fundamentals of what makes Poetizer a usable app. I cannot explain how disappointed this makes me feel as a writer. With an over saturated market of content like writing where authors often do it for themselves and not payment this is nothing more than legal stealing and dream dashing.
Developer Response
Hi, we're very sorry to read about your disappointment. We maintained the platform free of charge, ad-free and safe for several years, thanks to funding from an angel investor. We believe poetry should be accessible, and we aim to continue developing Poetizer to do that. In making this decision, we strived to keep the price as low as possible. It is not possible for us to run a totally free platform any longer as there are too many costs associated with it. We're sorry you disagree with the subscription but this was done in an effort to keep the platform alive.
What A Ride.

I had been using this app for years to dedicate myself to understanding poetry and being able to express myself. Some of my favorite poems are on this app, and I honestly loved the experience the community gave me. I even got to be a part of influencing their future endeavors for publication and further increasing motivation for poets all over the world. Unfortunately, it is time for me to put the pen down. As much as I love poetizer and their wonderful developers, I cannot personally see myself using an app that paywalls you to publish things. Being able to fluidly use and conduct on this app freely was the reason I kept myself active on there. Now with the subscription model in place, I no longer see myself able to stay motivated to keep myself in the community. This decision is my dealbreaker. Poetizer, I love you and the development you’ve made over the years. I wish you all the best, and I will miss you.EDIT: Thank you for the response. I hold no ill will towards the betterment of this app, and I 100% understand the necessity. It’s beautiful that you want to create such a beautiful space, free from the ephemeral intrusions of third party ads. These are just my own personal beliefs and viewpoints, and I acknowledge that they are simply that. Thank you for creating this wonderful app, and thank you for being the beautiful people that you are.

Hi, thank you so much for sharing your heartfelt sentiments with us. Our decision to implement a subscription model was not taken lightly. In order to maintain the platform, continue its development, and uphold our commitment to keeping it third-party ad-free, we needed a sustainable revenue model. Our goal has always been to provide our users with a distraction-free space dedicated to the art of poetry and expressing oneself. We genuinely hope you understand the necessity of this change for the platform's longevity and quality. Please know you will always have a place in the Poetizer community. Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors.
Free app?? More like false advertising.

I understand you have to make money, “nothing is free”, blah blah blah. As a writer who used this platform for 3-4 years now, I’d much rather have the option to pay OR to experience advertisements. I think it’s ludicrous that you’re forced to either pay, or delete the app (because there really is no further use. Despite it saying it’s a “free app” to download, almost every feature on it you have to pay a subscription for— not even a one time fee). There are a plentiful of other ways that you guys can continue to fund the app. I mean, how was it funded before the update? I hate to say this because this app really was one of my favorites, but it seems to me the owners are getting a little greedy. They probably saw their engagement increase as more and more people downloaded, so they had to take advantage of that. So, so sad.Edit: so y’all cannot take the time to read my actual review, you said the same thing that I was able to counteract before you replied. How was the app funded before the update? Y’all cannot answer that? How about the option to put advertisements on the app so that people will have to sit through 30 seconds instead of charging them? It’s a shame, the response even shows the greed. Take a step back and look at yourselves if y’all don’t think it’s greedy. Like bffr.

Hi, thanks for your feedback. Poetizer is a start-up - previous to the subscription, we were able to develop it and run it with investor funding. In order to continue operating it and improving it, we introduced the flat monthly fee. This fee is shown on the App Store. Thank you for your previous support. If you have any additional feedback, feel free to write to support@poetizer.com.
