Needs Improvement

This is a bare bones app to control the climate and locks on a Polestar, while also making your iPhone a functional key. I’d expect more function from the app for a sophisticated electric car, however the limited function it does have it very unreliable. Things that need to be fixed:

1. App must be killed and then reopened every single time, or you’ll get “Failed to initialize blah blah blah” error, even if the app has been used recently!

2. App is not reliable enough to use as a phone key yet. I tried using it once on a very short trip and almost locked myself out of my car. When I was coming back to the car in the parking lot I had to kill and restart the app multiple times and it took 5 minutes to finally work. Always, always bring a real key with you. Sometimes the app is open and working in my hand and I still can’t get the door to unlock. If you do make it into the car, it does at least seem to work better there and allow you to drive.

I will say that I like the simple layout of the control tab, but all the other “features” on the app seem useless. Example: one of the tabs takes you to a page to order the car you are already driving. You can view some accessories but if you want to actually shop and order you’ll have to leave the app.

This is all still very new, so here’s hoping we see some improvements in the near future.

Agree with the other poor reviews

I agree with everyone who likes the car but is finding the app very disappointing. It has actually lost functionality - up until a few weeks ago, I could monitor charging progress (that is, when I could get the battery level to pair with the car), but now that information has disappeared altogether even when I can get the battery level to update.

Please, please fix this. The car is so good. But the failure of the app is mystifying, especially considering the brands you’re competing against.

Not ready for release

I’ve owned the car for about a month now and only rarely does the app provide accurate information or connect with the car. It seems this app was released too soon and without proper testing.
The status of charge and climate features seldom work and when they do it’s because you’re sitting in the car. I’ve been able to schedule the preheating and climate only with the cars controls (center screen). The app never has successfully updated the climate scheduling feature.
Before adding such features as Geo locating I’d like to see the developer correct basic functionality with features, lock, climate, and state of charge. Lock works intermittently and I hesitate to depend on the “phone as key” feature.
Remove all the marketing information from the app. We are owners and only want connectivity with our vehicles. The article are too basic for owners.
My other vehicle is a 2021 Tesla M3. That app is not perfect and sometimes lags to update with current information for 2-3 minutes. After the two minutes pass it is current again and functional with door locks, location, state of charge, climate.
The fit and finish is much better with the P2 over the Tesla, but the tech needs work.
Apple car play is overdue.
