Best App for European Portuguese

I spent 6 months trying to learn as much European Portuguese as I could in preparation for a trip to Portugal. I struggled finding resources that were not Brazilian Portuguese, and then I found this app. I used several different apps- this one blew all others out of the water! Well worth the subscription. The phrases are useful and presented by native speakers. The grammar lessons are extremely helpful. I loved being able to bookmark phrases and add them to my smart review. My favorite part was the “shorties”, where you listen to dialogues and skits in European Portuguese at your level. When I went to Portugal, my husband was blown away at how well I was able to communicate after only 6 months of study. I was able to talk to our taxi driver who didn’t speak English, help my husband read menus that didn’t have English, order food for us, and even got us out of a tough spot when we couldn’t figure out which train to get on! You can jump around units and study different topics you think may be useful. I loved this app and recommend it to anyone trying to learn Portuguese.

European Portuguese! Great!

I rarely write review, but it is important to review this app. As a learner of Portuguese, I have scoured for resources. First, let me say that regardless of European/Continental Portuguese (Portugal, Mozambique, Cape Verda) vs Brazilian variation, but this is a great learning platform. Many apps and resources do no combine content, enjoyment, and learn-ability well. Duolingo does this, but it is Brazilian, and you will have to pay to really put time into learning if you want more than 5 hearts (mistakes allowed). Practice Portuguese also has tons of authentic audio, both pronunciations and conversations, not computer voices. So when examined from a Portuguese lens, it has to be a top 5 resource. For Euro/Continental Portuguese, it is the number one resource in my opinion. I married into a family that originated from Portugal, and have examined Portuguese resources for the last 10 years. Practice Portuguese is the number one resource for those trying to learn the original variation of Portuguese.

Engaging, multi-pronged strategy for learning Portuguese

I discovered Practice Portuguese almost two years ago, right before our first trip to Portugal. We ended up moving over here a year and a half ago and have been diligently studying the language through every means available. I mean all of it. University classes, TV, films, radio, books, You Tube, online courses, and most importantly , the Portuguese people themselves.

Practice Portuguese has become my go to language learning program. It’s fun and the creators are charming and witty. The way it’s designed makes it really entertaining, effective and highly motivational. And whoever is responsible for their grammar explanations is an absolute genius. Just do a Google search with a Portuguese grammar question if you want to see what I mean and read the Practice Portuguese answer. I have had so many “Ah Ha!” moments I’ve lost count. I love this program and will stay with it until fluency or bust!
