This used to be my favorite app just for the filters alone, i mean it’s beautiful and there’s one for every type of videos. BUT it’s definitely not as friendly to free users as it used to be. For example they removed the ability (star next to filter) to know which filter is free, now if you want to know you HAVE to select it which is quite annoying. What disappoints me the most is that some old filters which used to be free aren’t anymore. And i have to say the free filters now are just mediocre at best, i feel like most of the free filters are has too much effects which makes it harder to blend into your project and lacks the subtlety that the nice filters have. So far you have to admit the product is quality and if you are a content creator it’s a must have only if you pay for a subscription. But as a casual free user that only use it once in a while i think it’s not as beneficial. I dont really use the other features so i can’t speak in that. Just wish the devs see this and improve the free version like it used to be.
If you want to use any of the ACTUAL good stuff, you need to pay for the stupid premium. It was only about a year ago where I used one of my favorite effects that give off a film/disposable camera sort of look. However, recently— as in like 5 mins ago— when I tried to use it, suddenly I’m brought to the premium screen???! Like why??? I never had to pay for it before???? So after I realized I couldn’t use it anymore I tried to use a different effect, tell me why I pressed one , that DIDNT have the little star next to it, which lets you know that an effect or filter is premium, and i immediately get sent to the premium screen!!!! I’m so annoyed! I always thought this app was a go to for effects and filters even though a lot required premium but now it feels like if you want to use anything you HAVE to get premium. Now,I’ve been seeing the developers/company reply to other recent reviews saying that there are “300” free filters but 1. Doubt it’s 300 since if you press on an effect you have different variations of that effect and the majority have the premium star next to it and 2. it’s usually the worst variation that’s free and and If they are free effects they’re usually outdated or ugly. The only reason it gets TWO stars is because at some point this was a really nice app to use. Get if you want to pay is basically what I’m saying but I’m sure you can find free options.

so i downloaded this app with my friends one day, and i was obsessed. i came across the anime filter and used it all the time! the pics turned out really well and i loved this app like most of my day was on this app. the anime filter was by far my favorite and kinda the only one i used. after a while, i stopped using this app for around a month. and when i came back i was like, “oh, the anime filter!” and looked for it. and when i found it, to my surprise…it was premium. IT WAS THE ONLY FILTER I USED. i wouldn’t care if every single filter was premium i LOVE the anime filter! it worked so well and it’s better than the other filters i’ve used. but ofc, it’s premium. i also enjoyed the fantasy filter. and you guessed it, premium. all the other cool filters? premium. litteraly EVERYTHING? yup, premium. CAN YALL CHILL WITH THE PREMIUM?! i honestly loved this app like last year or two ago but when you made all my favorite filters premium, you don’t know how disappointed i was. and you might be like, “well, buy the premium!” yeah that’s kinda hard when your not allowed to spend money on apps. if the free filters were actually GOOD and everything wasn’t PREMIUM, this would be five stars. but sadly, this gets a two. i’m disappointed but will keep checking to see if they actually get good filters soon. please add some good filters back to the free!!!
I downloaded the app and all of the features were behind a paywall. So, I spent the lowest amount ($3.00) and didn’t even have access to any good features. On top of having to pay for the TEN AI generators and filters (yeah, you only get 10 for paying $3.00), you have an option to pay for a membership that is $4.99. Not to mention, the filters that you do unlock are poor quality and don’t look good. Oh, and if you buy their premium version, your photos miraculously just generate faster. Ridiculous. Every filter I’ve tried gives you eyeliner and make you look ridiculous, and figuring out how to even apply the filters isn’t user friendly.I don’t think this is the app that everyone using on social media, mainly because every filter you use has a watermark on the bottom right. Even after spending your money. I’ve used multiple photos and they all look like garbage, even ones that are frontal headshots/portraits like it suggests. I don’t recommend wasting money on anything this app has, because it’s not worth it in the slightest. I see why they require so much money, because they need to pay people to properly engineer elements into the app. 100% false advertisement, even after I used my money to get access to the features it advertises. I could have bought a McChicken and a large drink from Mcdonald’s.

I wanted to do a 3 day trial. So as soon as I downloaded this app I went to my subscriptions to cancel before getting charged the weekly. I still got charged $4.99 week after week. Come to find out unlike other apps in the app store this app uses the Apple API to also login their website to create a login & subscription as well & collecting your Apple email address which I don’t give out to anyone due to security & to prevent spam/junk mail being sent to me. So while you add the app through the App Store & think it’ll be as simple as to unsubscribe before being charged you have to go to their help button do a search for the unsubscribe. Which doesn’t gives you a direct link but only tells you where to go to do such. You have to go to the company website then login using the API to unsubscribe. So even if you went the normal route of unsubscribing an app by going through Apple ID, purchases/subscription, cancel subscription. You still have to go to Prequel actual website to officially cancel the subscription or you’ll still get charged. On Apple request a refund Prequel shows up as a free app so to requesting a refund is a grayed out option due to this. I’m reporting this as a scam to Apple & requesting for a refund. So far you guys STOLEN & owe me for 5 weeks of payments after I canceled the subscription from the App Store 5 weeks ago.

Too late did I realize by clicking the “trial” subscription that you would be charged weekly and NOT monthly the 5$ amount. In the beginning I believe it to be intentionally phrased to swindle the consumer. I doubt this company actually cares. I buy apps because I don’t mind an investment to purchase an app is no big deal to me. But I signed up for the subscription, which said a 1/week trial and then your subscription will begin within 7 days at 5 dollars. Now some re might come on here and blah blah but it is deliberately misleading. What they meant by 7days was that EVERY SEVEN days they’d charge you 5 dollars. It took me two months to realize because my other purchases were grouped in with it in notifications (another feature I’m sure they bank on because they probably make the most money on people who get it and then remove it after a few months.) I doubt they actually care and I know how iTunes works they won’t refund nor gonna bother trying. Overall this app is great if you like spending that much money. They do have a yearly option and some other stuff which I did want to purchase if after one month I enjoyed the app. However after spending 40$ on it (my bad but they definitely intend you not to notice.) I just can’t bring myself to spend another 28$ for the yearly.

I’ve been using Prequels effects and filters to make cool cover images for my playlists, etc. I used the Aurora effect the most as I loved the text-font for the titles on the cover images. Sadly it became a premium effect but I decided to purchase the Premium subscription because it was THAT important for me to keep using it. (Besides I can also use it other things) However the app got rid of the text font for that effect even though it is CLEARLY listed under a Text effect. It literally only displays settings to adjust lighting and filter. Where are the texts? That font isn’t even found in the Text features. The closest font I found was a title text on the effect Journal 1 , BUT you can’t edit the text or remove anything else. I gave the app 2 stars because it’s still contains cool features but you can’t make changes to effects containing texts etc. The text fonts are also limited and can’t make changes like compressing the text, bolding, italicize. I think the app should take better care of the features it already have, as a user you don’t know when the app’s Premium features will no longer be worth it.

I’ve had this app for a while, and I really enjoyed it. There were many free filters that I absolutely loved. Unfortunately, with this recent update, many of the free filters I’ve enjoyed have been taken away, such as the Rose, Monroe, Nightcall, Hypno, Sparkles, Stellar, Miracle, Prism, Split, Synthwave, Shot, Moiré, Polar, and others. I’ve lost respect for this app. I truly wish I didn’t update it because I’ve lost some of my most favorite filters. I wish I could afford to buy the premium version, but I just graduated nursing school (which I payed for all by myself). Also, I am starting out as a new nurse, and I don’t have much for extra expenses. Honestly, most users of this app are teenagers and young adults, and many in this demographic cannot afford the monthly/annual price of this app. A few years ago, an app like this would have been a one time purchase of 5.99 or less with optional in app purchases of extra features. Since many of my favorite features have been removed from this app, I will just delete the app. Prequel, I beg that you bring back the filters that were previously free. Or at least make it in which you can do a one time purchase to buy some of the effects, instead of a monthly/annual purchase. I truly hope this review is read. Thanks.

Good luck getting much of anything useful out of this app. I started using this app when it was actually good and useful. I’d say about half of the stuff on it was free to use. It felt fair almost. Regular users that didn’t want to pay still had useful effects and filters at their disposal while premium users who pay get everything on the app. But NOW it’s like 10% of it is free instead of half like it used to be. The rest you have to pay for. And one effect might be free for months and then you’ll wake up and it’s only a premium option. Or sometimes they’ll make a few premium things free and then a month later BAM! It’s premium again. I had about five favorites filters that I used RELIGIOUSLY for a year. Woke up at the beginning of this year, ALL OF THEM ARE PREMIUM NOW. It’s literally the most aggravating, infuriating thing. And it’s sad because this is a good app with good features. But I can’t pour my money into it when I have a billion other things I’m pouring money into. Sometimes this app feels very money hungry which is a shame because it’s a good app. But I simply can’t give it more stars. Not as long as they keep pulling the rug out from underneath its users.

Prequel is being created by a big team, and we've got expenses that we have to cover constantly, e.g. cloud servers, salaries, store commissions, etc. We have to keep the company profitable, as well. Though, Prequel will remain a free to use app. We will be adding new free filters every month. Also, we've offer a discount for the annual subscription: ca 15 U.S. Dollars per year. You can find this offer on the Prequel main screen > PRO button > Close regular offer > Click "Open special offer". It could be that one day old features will be free again, also it is possible that will add new subscription plans or one-time in-app purchases for access to certain tools. But we cannot promise these changes, as it all requires time, analysis, research and lots of data. I love the app's interface and ease of access to edit photos and videos. But as a turn of events really turned me off from this app. Recently I had to delete apps to free up space. Originally i had the yearly subscription to prequel and didn't think anything of it, I paid for a yearly Subscription, I can surely get it back upon re-downloading. But when I rebooted the app a month later it wouldn't let me get past the apps deals for a 1 week subscription unless i clicked it. (I had a yearly subscription already why is it showing me deals as if im a new customer? I thought) i never switched iClouds and the subscription was still valid. But i wanted to edit something in a hurry so rebooted it again and the SAME THING HAPPENED. Why am I getting double charged for a weekly subscription when i was trying to bypass and get to my stuff. So I contacted the support and they told me the charges were by apple and they said click restore purchase. So I cancelled the weekly subscription and clicked restore purchase and it gave me the WEEKLY SUBSCRIPTION. >;( I forward the emails for both receipts to both apple and prequel and since i clicked restore purchase it wont even let me cancel the weekly subscription. Highly upset at the hiccup and i just want a refund.
