  • Got it done!

I like this. I used it directly from my iMac Photos. I ended up creating and buying 20 photo books this christmas (two projects). I DID have trouble with adding new photos to the projects and with understanding how some of it works. Also it crashed often, but unlike other photo apps I tried, it always restarted immediately without losing my work. I would have been very grateful for the help chat, but I work on these things mostly at night and on weekends, so the chat was not available. (Actually, I’m happy that people are putting boundaries on their work hours). I tried two other online services in the course of making these holiday gifts, and this was the one that got me through, with a little help from expedited shipping.Note: Since I wrote this, I updated my second book a little and ordered 10 more copies of it. This time I was able to use the HELP chat, and my earlier problems were solved — confusion between using the browser version and the Mac PrestoPhoto app, which seem the same, and I’m not sure how I got from one to the other without knowing, but once I understood to BE SURE I WAS IN THE PRESTOPHOTO APP, I could add photos and edit just fine. So I guess in this crazy world where four stars is understood as “not good,” I’ll go ahead and update to five stars.

  • Photo Books & Mac made easy!

I just created and ordered my first hard cover photo book with PrestoPhoto via the Apple Photos app and wow it was a big step up from the old Apple provided photo book experience! You just make an album of what you want to use, then from the File menu > Create > Book > PrestoPhoto and Boom, I was able to choose from an array of printable photo book options and templates. What was more, they allowed me to custom edit the layout of ANY page template, whereas the old Apple provided templates were always hard-coded and forced you to work within their constraints. It took a bit to realize that my photos were grouped automatically by day, and PrestoPhoto did an initial spread automagically from my chosen number of pages using my chosen album. Plus, it was easy to edit, rearrange or delete these auto generated pages as desired saving me lots of time. Even using the now defunct Apple Aperture application was not as flexible or easy to use as this was. Lastly, I made a mistake when ordering my book, and after quickly emailing their support, a PrestoPhoto rep responded and took care of me in no time, making everything smooth and easy. Would highly recommend!!!

I’ve been producing a wall calendar from my Mac photos for friends and family for the past 14 years using various software packages. They all had their own strengths and weaknesses, but like most users, I’d go back to the app I knew. This year I decided to take a chance and try PrestoPhoto and I’m glad I did. After a short orientation period deciphering icons and some trial & errors, It proved easier to use and had more flexibility than past apps I’ve used. I only ran into one frustration - I like to insert a photo on the date of a person’s birthday or anniversary and then add a caption with the person’s name and event. PrestoPhoto allows the insertion of a photo on a day but then adding a caption to that photo/day was doable but not straightforward and somewhat time-consuming. I am now awaiting the finished product and anxious to see how it stacks up to my past results.

I have been making books with the Apple App for years but switched to Presto Photo when that was no longer available. I've had good luck with them over the past few years, easy process and good quality. I recently went in to make anaother book and discovered everything had changed in their format since I had made my last book. After trying to figure it out on my own I became frustrated and decided to contact them to see if they had answers for the problems I was having. I received a message back very quickly explaining where to find further infomation and instructions how to use the new system. I was directed to some videos which were very informative although it would have been even more helpful if there would have been audio to go along with it. Even though there was still a learning curve adjusting to the new format I eventually was able to figure it out and ended up liking it. The one thing I did miss though was having both pages on the screen at the same time while you are working on them.. It's just nice to be able to see how the pages look together as you are actually placing the pictures. You can see them together on the left side of the project but they are very small and you can't move pictures around. Maybe there is some way to get that but I never found it. If thatisn't a possibility with this new format that's one thing I think would improve the system. As frustrated as I was to begin with I do see some things they added that ended up making the process easier and more effective. I'm happy with the way the book turned out. I was very impressed with the customer service, how quickly they got back to me and how pleasant and helpful they were

  • Great quality, tedious to make

    Travelgrannie

I am one of many who used Apple IPhoto to make books. PrestoPhoto has the familiar templates but is more difficult to use. I do a lot of writing in my books and I would like to set one font (of my choice) for the entire book, can’t be done. As many others have said, trying to read the text in the text boxes is not always easy & it is difficult to change text once it is typed. The photos can’t be scaled for the photo boxes, sometimes a photo is gigantic, other times too small and no way to fix it in app. The photos come in in chronological order, but not always. I had mine in the order I wanted them to be used and then had to go back & forth to find what I wanted. Adding extra photos after the initial group found some photos in chronological order and others at the end of the entire set of photos. Tedious & frustrating. However, the finished product was beautiful and it came quickly. I will continue to use PrestoPhoto because it is better than the other online book apps and hopefully will get some of these problems solved before the next book I make.

Template Modern Lines1. text edit, did not alleign well under photos, and the box would not extend on photos on the bottom of page. I had to crop photo boxes. Text box was no where near the boundary cropping line. Also when double clicking to write text box would grey out and I could NOT type in box, NOR could the box be deleted to repeat the process. Also Font size option does not always come up.2. Edit Layout: changing size of photos; no guidelines appear to aleign with other photos, eyball it is not accurate!3 Starting Book options should be more spefic once Templat is chosen for Modern Lines there should also be a option to change background to white. You havde one but one has to "search for it" luckily I was doing 3 books so on the 3rd book it was familiar....MANY PEOPLE ARE ONLY MAKING ONE BOOK.4. Photos do not load quickly when switching from Template options back to Images. Big frustration was, I oraginize photos by Event which is NOT necessarily by DATE and all my organization was down the drain when loaded on the book. It is very time consuming to scroll through all the photos to get specific events together. IE : Spending 3 days in a city..all city photos should be together. 5. Unsure if its better to start creating book thourht PHOTOS or going on line to Presto Ap???Sorry, cant scroll back to proof read my remarks so hope you can find some benefit from this report.

  • Great experience!

I have used Presto Printing for 6 photo albums now and could not be happier. I am a former Apple iPhotos user and when Apple discontinued their photo printing service, I was scrambling to find a company that allowed me to use the same type of format that I used before. Presto Printing is actually better than Apple because I can change the templates to allow for my own design and amount of photos on a page. Sometimes I really need a page with an odd number of photos, and the Presto App, as an extension of my Apple Photos App on my computer, allows me to customize my pages when I want. They have tons of templates and I can pick the ones I want or edit one they have. It’s just a really great option. I am starting a vacation album today and can’t wait to get it back and relive our fun adventures.

  • Excellent quality and great replacement for Apple photobooks

    DZ-MN

I've made annual photobooks for the family for many years, originally using Aperture's excellent book templates and seamless ordering. When Apple abandoned Aperture and stopped supporting photobooks I was in a bind. Happily, PrestoPhoto's plugin for the Photos app lets me emulate Apple style photobooks and easily order them. It took me a while to get comfortable with using the new plugin and are a few tricks to customizing the layout that make it not quite as user-friendly as the old Apple version, but if you search those issues on line it is usually easy to find the needed trick. Quality of the printed book is very comparable to the Apple verstions and delivery time is good. Overall I'm very pleased and particularly happy that the family photobook series has continued uninterrupted.

  • Works with my Mac Photos

    Now Creation

The main reason I chose Presto Photo is that is works with the photos already in my Apple Photo app. Not having to upload the photos to a site before making the photo book saved me hours of time.I was also glad for an 8.5X11 format, which some of the other apps did not offer. The editing was not super intuitive and the window was small so it was hard to see details on the page. Although it allowed text, it was very basic. There were no embellishments available that I could find. The layouts were adequate but I would have liked more options or a chance to create my own. If such a feature was available I never found it. It's hard to rate it because I haven't seen the finished product. If it turns out well, I will use this again because it's so compatable with my photo storage on my Mac.

  • Photo Books using Apple Photos

    chris5u

I've had good success with this App in making picture books from my collection of travel photos in Apple Photos. The application is very powerful and makes it easy to organize the photos for each day of your trip. You can then drag & drop them into the page template. I like that photos you have used get grayed out so you're not tempted to use the same one twice. You can edit the size and location of the placeholders for the photos if you need to better match the proportions of your edited photo. There is a feature that will place your selected photo in the page templates for you, but I prefer to do that myself. I've been using Presto Photo to print books for me since 2015, and the app just keeps getting better.

After 20 photo books created with Aperture and printed by Presto Photo, I finally used the Apple Photos Presto Photo app for this one. Yes, a big learning curve. Not all the same features, but figured out how to size all my photos and text boxes as I desired. I am picky about aspect ratios, not as easy as Aperture but doable. I do not let the program place anything in my book (nor did I with Aperture). Easy to copy text from my document and paste in the text spaces, and easy to edit text after. Would like page numbers. (Sad that Apple no longer offers 27” iMac. This book was 8x11.5 and I mostly use 10x13, so the smaller iMac definitely a challenge.) Presto Photo Support has been great for years and helped me work thru learning the new app. My printed book looks great!

  • Difficult to use

    JimPaulS

I have used Apple's Aperture to produce many books in the past and found this app difficult to use and unpredictable in comparison. The PrestoPhoto product randomly crashed many times during my book build forcing a reload/restart of the app. When this occurred the book being built returned as it was before the crash so this was more of a nuisance. A more serious problem is that at least a half dozen times while constructing pages the app eliminated/relocated either pictures or captions that I had built on pages after I had hit the DONE button. I am at a loss to explain why this occurred, but it forced a rebuild of those pages. This caused me a loss of confidence in the product. If I caused this problem by incorrectly using the product, please advise me so. Otherwise, this is a serious problem that should be corrected quickly.

    Developer Response

Hello JimPaulS, thank you for bringing this problem to our attention! I'd love to get you connected with our engineering team to troubleshoot these crashes - please reach out to us via email at support@prestophoto.com. We are big fans of Aperture and can understand the frustration that comes with trying out another product.
