Description

An adventure game where you teach virtual characters to solve problems! Videos, practices, and reviews if you need to learn! Paintballs, pets, mining, and more, for fun!

ProblemScape is an adventure game for introductory algebra. The game takes you to the strange city of Arithma in search of your lost sibling. You need help finding them, but who can help you? The inhabitants of Arithma, the Arithmen, are by nature helpful (that is, when they're not playing paintball). The mayor of Arithma can help too, but you have to find him first, which is not always easy - he goes into hiding at the first sign of trouble! It turns out the Arithmen need your help too. The only ones in Arithma who can do math, the Xperts, have all vanished! Could this be connected to the disappearance of your sibling? And how can a city function without anyone knowing math?

The fun and engaging 3D adventure game includes videos/animations, worked examples, extensive practice, teach to learn activities that facilitate deep engagement and understanding, assessments for each concept, challenge games, and a narrative that promotes math efficacy and social-emotional development.

The multimodal math content is deeply rooted in research, follows the "Expressions & Equations" strand of the Common Core State Standards, and is for anyone who wants to learn Algebra. There are eight chapters or levels in the game, with each chapter focusing on just one or two concepts. The game helps students get a robust understanding of variables, learn different strategies for solving one-step equations and inequalities, and explore dependent and independent variables.

Pam Gail ,

Full of Problems

1. No way to exit the game. When you want to leave, you have to shut down the computer. When you turn the computer back on, you are still on the game. As a player you can do nothing else.

2. You cannot get past chapter 1. After successfully completing chapter 1, you are not allowed to continue. Your only option is to do chapter 1 again.

3. The game itself was educational and fun up to the end of chapter 1. However, after you are done with chapter one the nightmare begins.

4. My kids are now unable to do anything under their user name on the computer, because we cannot log out of problemscape.

5 This game is a nightmare.

Developer Response ,

Dear Pam, thanks so much for your review! We are glad that you found the first chapter educational and fun. We have currently released only the first chapter of the game, but are planning to release the full game with a total of 8 chapters soon. We are sorry to hear that it was difficult to quit the game after the chapter was complete - we are now adding an exit button and an update will be available shortly. Until then, players should be able to press ‘⌘’ + ‘q’ to quit the game so that they can continue using the computer. We hope that your kids will resume playing ProblemScape when other chapters become available. We appreciate your feedback and would love to hear what you think of the full game. Warm regards from the RoundEd Learning team.
