Please note: This app is for licensed Amateur Radio operators only. QTH.app is an APRS® client application exclusively for the macOS platform. It connects to the APRS network via radio or Internet to help operators receive, transmit, and visualize information being shared over APRS. The Automatic Packet Reporting System (APRS) is a digital communication protocol used by amateur radio operators to share realtime information like position, weather, messages, and telemetry over radio frequencies and the Internet. APRS enables tracking and monitoring of assets such as vehicles, weather stations, and portable devices, making it a versatile tool for both hobbyists and emergency communications. Operators can connect using the Internet via APRS-IS or transmit over RF via a radio connected to the computer using a KISS Terminal Node Controller (TNC) or directly via an audio interface. Also supports GPS connections over serial or Bluetooth to augment the built in macOS Location Services. Incoming station reports are displayed on the main map and can be selected to view detailed information, such as latitude, longitude, speed, heading, and more. Exchanging text messages over APRS brings a familiar feel as it adopts the a similar user interface to Messages and integrates with your Contacts. Important: QTH.app follows a “freemium” pricing model. QTH.app is free to receive APRS traffic. You are welcome to use it for free, in receive-only mode, for as long as you would like. However, to enable transmit, it requires a one-time in-app purchase.

Great setup

Ok so I downloaded this and ran the free side for a few days just to test the waters. After getting that side figured out i bought the paid side to tx with. Im happy to report that Weston was able to answer all my questions and help me with anything i had come up. I am running this on a yaesu ft400 with a mobilink tnc4. I have about 5 aprs radios and have messaged them and replied and messaged a friend on the other side of the county all is operational as it should be plus its clean and fits the native mac look. ......73

Mobilinkd TNC4 not support?

I haven’t been able to get the Mobilinkd TNC4 to work with QTH. I wasn’t able to find any relevant documentation to help troubleshoot this issue, and I couldn’t find anywhere to seek support. I can get the Mobilinkd to connect to the MacOS, and I can both hear and transmit from my radio via the Moblinkd config tool. However I can’t get QTH to recognize the Mobilinkd device. I also tried the developers other app ‘Mobilinkd TNC Configuration’ and that app did not recognize the device either, despite the Mobilinkd device working with the official manufactures config utility on MacOS. I haven’t purchased the license, because I wanted to test it with the Mobilinkd that I purchased just to use with this app. Too bad. I think it would have been really great if it worked. Maybe it will be fixed in the future.

It does indeed work with the Mobilink TNC4; I user one myself. However, in recent versions of macOS, I have noticed what appears to be a bug in macOS where Bluetooth serial ports work fine right after they are paired and then hang on read on subsequent uses. This affects more than just QTH.app. The (annoying) workaround is to re-pair the device when you want to use it. Hopefully Apple fixes this soon. If you need help, the App Store has a "Support" link that brings you to my webpage that has a variety of ways to contact me. The easiest way, however, is just to email me at wbustraan@gmail.com

Messaging not working correctly

So the app itself works, would like to see more options and more detail in the map. Messaging is horrible, I am struggling to get it working properly while my digipi run on a baofeng and rpi works great! The cost of this app is more than my digipi setup! Unreal! Need to work on that. Also I am running an FT-897. Setup required me to use a generic PTT rather than the FT-897 option. The beacon works great, audio levels fine all in all its ok at best. Fix the price of the app, messaging and rig interfaces and it'll be worth it. Lets hope an update resolves some of these issues. For now I'm sticking to my DigiPi set up which again can cost less than this app! Most of us have an RPI and a Baofeng laying around! Buy an AIOC and flash an SD card, far better option!
