Description

Fresh update for Catalina!

A simple and safe file renaming solution for everyone since 2014! Won't overwrite existing files or use invalid names.

Rename your photo collection using meaningful names. Organize your MP3 or iTunes music library with artist, song, album and track numbers. Access the EXIF metadata in your digital photography and use it to name your files.

Simply browse for files, use wildcard search, or drag and drop from Finder. You will see files to be renamed in the "Before" window and a live preview of their new name in the "After" window.

Simple Mode allows you to use easy presets to change the file name, rename music files, rename with EXIF photo data and more.  In Simple Mode the app will automatically number files sequentially so that they sort properly:

Vacation001.jpg
Vacation002.jpg
...and so on.

Advanced Mode gives you precise control with the following actions:

Change file name
Remove file name
Add sequential numbers with padding
Replace text
Change case
Add prefixes
Add suffixes
Insert dates (file creation, file modification, custom)
Change extension
Insert Audio Metadata (MP3 and AAC)
Insert Photo Metadata (EXIF)
Make uppercase
Make lowercase
Make titlecase
Regular Expression (RegEx) search and replace

Actions are performed in sequential order, giving you total control over the resulting file names. Once you have created the perfect set of actions they can be saved for later use.

Safety checks are performed before renaming to ensure that the new file names are legal and that there are no naming conflicts with existing files. You can rename the original files or create copies with the new names.

Need to rename directories? Switch to folder mode in the preferences window and you can do just that!

Don't spend hours in finder typing names or risk overwriting existing files with a renaming script. Try it today and use the time you saved for something fun!

Looks useful but doesn't support HEIC

I bought this app to rename pictures taken with my iPhone (HEIC) and also JPG pictures.

It looks powerful with support for many types, but HEIC doesn't seem to be one of them and that was my main use case.

The menus and options could also be a bit more straightforward and/or include help text on-screen for first time users, had to read the manual to figure out why the Photo Tags list wasn't populated and had to load a picture apparently so that it could show the available (EXIF) tags.

Amazing flexibility, a bit of a learning curve.

There's nothing about this app that couldn't be addressed by a "Getting Started" guide. That said, the flexibility it offers is amazing.

You'll quickly figure out how to specify which file renaming options you wish to perform. You can change the order of the actions you specify (and there are a lot to choose from).

My own personal challenge was trying to figure out how to enable the "Rename Files" button. It was grayed out, however the "Test Manual" button was enabled.
Turns out that after executing "Test Manual" on my 5,000 files, I had to go through the batch looking for every one for which the App reported an error, then remove that from the file list.

The error checking was preventing the app from inadvertently creating any duplicate file names, so that was OK. It just was not easy to locate those tiny red "X"s in a very long list of files...

Now that I think about it, I'd bet I could have figured out a way to have those duplicates named with a numerical sequence and saved myself some manual labor. That is, after all, what computers are supposed to be good at.

As I said, a good "Getting Started" guide would have earned this app a five-star rating from me.
