Description

With Qwant, search in private mode.

What if your private life remained private? What if your searches didn't make you an advertising target? What if your movements were not used by third parties? Good news, it's possible: just download Qwant for Safari, the search engine that knows nothing about you and it changes everything!

A search engine that respects the privacy of its users

Launched in 2013, Qwant is a French search engine that guarantees its users respect for their privacy and the same search results for everyone. On desktop, the Qwant for Safari extension (free) sets Qwant as the default search engine in Safari. Because we believe that your personal data is none of our business, Qwant never keeps it. They are not used or sold to third parties. Ethics, relevance of searches, confidentiality: Qwant is THE search engine that gives back anonymity to its users.

Qwant Search : the search engine that doesn't know anything about you, and that changes everything: zero tracking of your searches, zero personal data use, zero targeted advertising.

Qwant Maps : the map service that finds the right addresses and guides you around without tracking you.

It does work

This extension replaces the default Safari search engine with Qwant. The first time I tried it, it didn’t seem to do anything. I tried again and carefully followed the instructions in the App Store screen shots. This time it worked. You’ll still see the old default search engine in Safari settings, but the extension will ignore that and redirect to Qwant.

Better than DuckDuckGo

Hmm, after a long history with DuckDuckGo (DDG) and espousing all its wonders like random email generation and privacy first doctrine, I recently learned DDG actually does no blocking of Microsoft websites and the CEO has stated they would block sites that are an anathema to their beliefs. Gross DDG, simply gross. I understand Qwant, a French based search aggregate, is a wiser use-case. So, for now, I rate five stars and will remove all vestiges of DDG.

Low value

All it does is create a link to Qwant. Bummer because I use Qwant regularly. All searches default to safari default.
