PLEASE NOTE: While Railtime is free to download, it requires a paid subscription to receive schedules.

RailTime is the first train app worth downloading, and the last one you'll ever need! Sure, it shows you the schedule, but that's just the beginning. In RailTime, you can set an alarm on a trip with a lead time you specify, and it will let you know when you should be heading for the station. Not ready to leave the bar stool yet? Just ignore the alarm, and RailTime will tell you about the next train! Only want express trains? No problem! Is there just one train you know you need? - Sure! Plus, it will even let you know what track your train is on, and whether it's on time or not!

Never worry about schedule updates - they're delivered to your device, in the background, automatically. You never have to push a 'sync' button, or worry about whether you have a connection to the internet or not. While we're on the subject, the internet is not needed for anything but updates, sending notifications, and track/status.

What are notifications? They're one of the most innovative features of RailTime. Do you call your significant other with the time of the train you're on? RailTime can do it for you! Just put their email address into the notification editor, and RailTime will send them an email when it figures out what train you're on. Want your friends to know what train you're on? RailTime can tweet your train too! Notifications only work on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPad 3G.

Do you often make connections to get to your destination? RailTime's train board allows you to choose any 2 stations, and it will dynamically calculate the best connections for you. Even 3 trains if you have to! The train board automatically scrolls to the current time, so there are ZERO presses necessary to get the full picture. Pie icons show you at a glance what trains will leave in the next hour, and express trains' travel times are shown in white, while locals are gray.

Need to plan for a future date? Press and hold the calendar button to select any date in the future. Unlike other apps that only differentiate weekday from weekend, we manually update our schedules to reflect the little changes that need more granular data, so picking a specific date is necessary.

Currently supporting MetroNorth Harlem, Hudson, New Haven, Danbury, Waterbury, and New Canaan lines. Long Island Railroad is in progress. One line at a time is available as a trial, and all lines are available via in-app purchase.

Location Disclaimer - RailTime uses your GPS location in order to determine what train you're on. GPS is only active for 30 seconds when determining your train, so it should not reduce battery life significantly. However, your experience may vary.

Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life

What’s New

Version 2.6

The main goal of this build is to upgrade the app to be more compatible with the current iOS release (and remove the pesky warning about the app being slow). Because of changes in how iOS handles contacts, please review and update the email addresses of any notifications you have configured. Also, if you use notifications please go to Privacy - Location Serivces and set RailTime to "Always". More to come soon!

Great app better service

The app is great and makes life easier, but let me echo the sentiment of the other reviewer. I have NEVER had better customer service EVER.

I had a problem getting the updated schedules to the app and Ken was amazing answered my emails within minutes and always had helpful suggestions. He really cared that the app wasn’t working for me

Terrific App, Unbelievable customer support.

This App is great. The schedules and tracks are up to date - even when there are temporary schedule changes. If that were all this app had to offer, I would be entirely satisfied. However, I need to remark on how great support is. I've had a few issues over the years with this app when I've gotten a new device or needed to reset the IOS. Each time, I've emailed the company and I get a response within minutes - and a fix within a few more minutes. I have not had similar experience with any other developer. For that reason, this app (and this developer) rock! big fan.

Easily the Best Metro North App

I have tried every metro north app there is and I always end up going back to the web site to confirm schedules and track info. Not anymore since getting RailTime.

What are the two main things you need when traveling metro north?

1. Accurate schedules
2. Knowing which track your train is on (especially when you are sprinting through GCT at 1:50 AM hoping you catch the last train)

RailTime delivers on both these points and then some.

The only thing I would like to see is a way to set favorites. Its current implementation is a bit clunky as you have to go back and forth between different lines to see the recents. Combining the stops from different lines into a single "Recent Stops" list would make sense.

The developer is very responsive via email and I am happy to support a company that supports their customers and develops quality software to begin with.
