Description

We know there are a lot of navigation apps out there, but after spending the past two decades out looking for adventure in classic cars with other enthusiasts, we realized that something critical was missing. Most apps are developed to get you from A to B, to make driving a route as mindless as possible. Rallista is different.

Rallista focuses instead on taking “The road less traveled” — focusing on the journey, not the end points. At Rallista we want to facilitate new adventures — to show you roads you never knew existed. We want to help you make new driving memories and create new experiences to share with other enthusiasts. Whether you are winding your way through the hills and hollows of Tennessee in an NSX, making a cross-country jaunt in an M5, or taking some off road Yumps near Mt. St. Helens in a custom Rally Beetle, Rallista is an app that can help you plan your journey and share with others to enjoy.

---

Create and navigate custom routes using waypoints to follow exactly the road sections you want. Drive alone with an impromptu route, a saved drive, or someone else's publicly shared drive. Drive with a group using a public or private event.

Explore, build the route you want, and drive routes created by others. Depending on your interests you can drive solo or in an event with multiple other cars.

Find paved and unpaved roads using the map color coding (white for paved, yellow for unpaved). See the location of other cars on an event.

Create an account and keep track of your cars and driving stats.

Great Mapping, Some Features Needed

Overall this a great app that needs a slightly larger community to discover it. I’ve found several very cool routes I wouldn’t normally see on a Google Maps service.

Pros
Waypoints are generally pretty good and easy to add
Topography maps make canyon roads fun and easy to find
Easy to learn interface
Estimated distance and times are a great way to keep your spouse from underestimating the adventure you’re dragging them on

Cons
No easy way to edit a route once set. A List of directions/stops would be nice
No way to tell a road from a hiking trail in-app. Off-road/dirt designations would be nice
Once a route is set there is no way to reverse the directions so you have to rebuild your route in reverse

May make .gpx files and Garmin obsolete

Wow. First tour today with it, overall solid. Minor nits: Would *love* the ability to lock the map to north, and ability to use “offline” so in remote areas the app is still relevant. But will be looking into using this again.

Initial impressions are not good

I bought the app, which appeared to be a free download but turned out to cost $3. That would not be a big deal if I got something worthwhile. It has no instructions and I can’t figure out how it works. The link to instructions takes me to a feedback page. Great idea, but my initial Impressions of the execution are not good at all.

Follow up: A friend of mine also purchased the app and had exactly the same experience. His opinion is that its a beta version not ready for market.

I have to wonder if all the dozen or so great reviews are plants by the developer.
