Description

Realpolitiks is a streamlined real-time grand strategy game that allows you to become the leader of any contemporary nation. Dive deep into the issues of the modern world, with its current geopolitical borders, using your country’s power and economic strength to engage in military conflicts and international affairs. Choose your own method of coping with other nations' interests, unexpected events, global threats and various crises. Deal with the disintegration of the European Union, terrorism, the aftermath of World War III and many other real and fictional scenarios.

Based on three main political systems (democracy, authoritarianism, totalitarianism), Realpolitiks allows you to extend the influence of your country through various means, all in order to win the race for global domination. Use your diplomatic skills, economic advantages, military power and the full freedom of moral and ethical decision-making to become a world superpower and ensure the well-being of your citizens.

Grow and develop your nation to the highest possible levels of economic power, technological competitiveness and military supremacy in globally-ranked charts. The choice is yours as to whether you become a valued member of the United Nations, or a nuclear tyrant, bullying all those around you. Expand your territory any way you like with the whole-world sandbox gameplay of Realpolitiks, even creating colonies out at sea. And if that's not enough, try spreading the seed of our civilization to outer space...

Features:

• Lead any country in the world to global domination in various game scenarios.
• Shape your country's political system and determine its relations with other nations.
• Deal with internal and external affairs and face threats from natural disasters, terrorism, financial crises and more.
• Make use of common political instruments in your international relations, including spy tactics and espionage to directly influence other nations’ internal affairs.

It has potential.

#1. Allow a choice of difficulty levels.
#2. Remove the Action Points constraint.
#3. Let users play as Kekistan.
#4. Include suffrage choices that realistically impact gameplay: Landed Gentry (taxpayers only), Military & Veterans only, Universal Suffrage, etc. Landed Gentry would provide representation in exchange for taxation. Military/Veterans only would provide representation for service. Universal Suffrage inevitably leads to an unsustainable gynocentric welfare state that rewards and propagates the least productive members of society (i.e. representation without taxation.)
#5. Allow annexation through war. Wars are often fought over scarce resources… not points.

Major Flaws in Game Design

The game would be a 4 or 5 star game, except they screwed the pooch in a major way: they'll hit you with random events such as a terrorist attack or a random "everybody hates you for no reason" event that will COMPLETELY screw your nation over. -3% GDP growth every month consecutively for a year is NOT realistic for a terrorist attack to accomplish. -1.5% GDP growth every month consecutively because of some "anti-your country sentiment in the world" isn't realistic at all. Even if it was, it makes the game unplayable. Once hit with these random non-sensical ailments, your nation is toast, unfortunately it took me several hours of fighting it to figure that out.

Almost… nut not quite

I love these types of games. I have been playing it for about a week. In general it is an excellent concept and varied enough to make every experience different. The designers get 5 stars for concept and the attention they made to making sure there were a lot of technologies to research and varied political events.

I rated it only 3 stars because unfortunately they missed a few things.

There is a complete lack of a Online Help . You will have to search YouTube for tips on how to play and Google to understand some phrases like “Gain as core”, and I still do not have any clue what is supposed to be happening when a player attempts that task on a neighboring country. The AI is so random i think it has multiple personality disorders, so they need to focus on improving this and fixing some critical bugs. Nations that are facing an invasion or having just reached a peace with an invader refuse to accept alliance? This is the odd behavior of the AI. Many of the random events you just have to accept, which is inconsistent because some others you have options. The most annoying here is the culture aspect; there seems to be no way to preserve your culture or export it to your neighbors. But, maybe there is but no luck in finding any help in the game. The “tutorial” scenario is no help except for learning how to navigate the game. The behavior of rebels is also a problem. If one of your provinces rebels, it seems to be able to get more military resources than your entire nation is capable of supporting to fight for independence - very annoying bug.

Overall, a good game to play and hoping they continuing making improvements because this could be great!
