Description

FaceID or LiDAR required. The app is paid but you can record 3 3D Videos to try it. Colormaps and True3D included only in Full Version. Wi-Fi Streaming via additional IAP

Record your very own 3D Videos using the selfie *FaceID* camera or the *LiDAR* sensor! Export them into FBX, glTF, sequence of PLY files, OBJ or Alembic. Use WebRTC Wi-Fi Streaming, export into RGBD mp4 videos.

Show your Volumetric Videos in AR and experience the **True3D effect**: turn your iPhone or iPad into a window through which you can see into the world behind your screen, where your 3D Videos live! True3D is activated by pressing the "3D" button in the vertical toolbar. Be sure to be in portrait orientation to activate True3D.

Are you a Digital Artist or a Developer? Then there is something for you too. You can stream RGBD video from your device into your computer via USB cable. Just install C++ or Python library and you are good to go. The C++ and Python libraries are open source — therefore there is no need to be worried about privacy (as you can easily verify for yourself).

You can also buy the Wi-Fi Streaming & RGBD Video export Extension Pack and stream 3D Videos (with color-coded depth data) via Wi-Fi using WebRTC — that means you can stream 3D Videos even into a web browser! Note that Wi-Fi Streaming works ONLY over your local network (LAN), NOT over the Internet. Wi-Fi Streaming delivers lower quality depth data compared to USB streaming, because it leverages lossy compression. For more details about Wi-Fi Streaming, visit https://record3d.app

Note that the Unity USB Streaming demo is currently not compatible with the Wi-Fi Streaming feature. Wi-Fi Streaming uses a completely different technology, so you will need to rewrite the Unity demo to work with Wi-Fi Streaming.

With that same Extension Pack, you can encode (export) 3D Videos into RGBD mp4 videos, which can be used for example for viewing your 3D Videos in a Looking Glass holographic display. If you are an artist or a developer, you can use the mp4 RGBD videos for offline 3D Video visualisation.

Speaking of privacy, Record3D does not track you, does not contain any analytics, ads nor any other invasive things. Everything you do in the app stays on the device, is completely yours and not shared with any third parties. The Wi-Fi Streaming feature works only on your local network (LAN), it does NOT work over the Internet.

The app offers you 3 free 3D Videos so that you can evaluate some of its functionality before purchasing.

Cool ideas - Issues with app

Issue 1: Bought full version but still locked out of exporting RGBD. Brings up modal but doesn’t “restore”. Happy to support but yea, need my features please. $$$ Issue 2: One of the options resulted in an attempted export of 1.3gb made of 3 files? I had “generate normals” on but this seems excessive and I’m confused given it was a 7 second video. Issue 3: I have no idea what each of the options are for the icons when in the playback view. Except the AR icon of course. Issue 4: No USDz export option? AR view is available but need that to be shareable. Should be possible since GLTF is there. Issue 5: Library full of preview images that are gray. Hard to tell what I’m looking at sometimes Issue 6: The pull right menu in the library view is a little finicky. At risk of accidentally deleting. Needs a better menu for actions. Issue 7: Cant rotate AR preview around. Happy to continue with feedback. I’m building an AR marketplace for scans and interactive content.

Hello Jeff, I am copying my answers from the Github issue from yesterday (https://github.com/marek-simonik/record3d/issues/28#issuecomment-997285874). Note that App Store reviews/comments take 1-2 days to appear, so email discussion will be much faster.

1.
The RGBD video export option is a part of the optional "Wi-Fi Streaming & RGBD Videos" extension pack, which is why you see the pop-up. The app first lets you purchase either the Basic Version or the Full Version (via which you will get the core features) and then there is one optional extension pack, as mentioned before (apologies for the confusing name "Full Version" — when I was first releasing the app, I didn't know I would release extension pack(s) in the future). Here you can download a sample RGBD mp4 file.

2.
Some of the export options do generate large files, that is correct. To the best of my knowledge, there is currently no industry standard for storing 3D Videos, so I added multiple export options, which "abuse" existing file formats meant for storing static geometry. To get the smallest file size by far, I would recommend that you export into the "glTF Meshes (.gltf + .bin + .jpg)" file format. On the other hand, I do strongly advise against exporting into Alembic, because that file format produces enormous file sizes even for <1 second videos. If there is an efficient 3D Video file format that you know about, please feel free to suggest it and I will attempt to implement it into the app.

3.
I am attaching a screenshot with textual description of each button. Feel free to experiment with the buttons to see what they do. The True3D feature is described here, including a short video: https://record3d.app/features

4.
Thanks for the great suggestion! I will try to implement USDZ into a future update of the app if that will make practical sense (in my experience, iOS won't let you preview an USDZ model if its file size is larger than some arbitrary internal iOS threshold).

5.
This should be easy to fix: go into the Settings tab > Colormaps > select a colormap you like. Once you will have selected a colormap, all newly recorded videos will have colorful previews.

6.
There is an alternative way of invoking the scan options menu; you can do it either by sliding your finger over the row (as you said) or you can long-press the row. But even if you would accidentally press the red "Delete" action, Record3D won't immediately delete the scan — an alert pop-up will be shown in which you will have to choose which file format you wish to delete.

7.
It is possible to somehow manipulate with the scan, but I agree with you that the controls are not optimal and are due to improvement in a future update. The AR model manipulation controls are explained here, in the "Augmented Reality" section.

Can we please continue our discussion over email (support@record3d.app)? I think the issues you mentioned are related more to the iOS Record3D app itself than to this record3d library.

Thanks,
Marek

Wow that is Error 1847 ,

Awesome app and great idea but…

There’s a bug that doesn’t let you scan more once you deleted all videos or you uninstall and reinstall the app.

Developer Response ,

Hello, can you please update to the latest version of Record3D and see if the bug has been fixed? If you would still experience this issue, then please send me an email at support@record3d.app and I will assist you.

Thank you!
Marek

Great App and Very Responsive Developer

I ran into an issue and contacted the developer and he was really quick to respond and worked through testing with me to figure out what the issue was. Not only did he fix the issue but he also added two new features that I requested.

The app works great for what I need and it’s a lot of fun to use. We’re planning some landscaping projects on our heavily sloped yard. This paired with Meshlab will help me plot out yard out more accurately.

Developer Response ,

Thank you :)!
