You’ve been struggling alone for too long. Whether you're trying to quit addiction, break an unwanted habit, or find healing through a difficult challenge, it can be tough to struggle in isolation.

Relay makes it easy to find a strong support system to help you be successful.

To get started, Relay will help match you into a small group of other peers who are in the same boat — people who actually get it.

Once you’re in your team, Relay makes it easier to reach out when vulnerable, track your goals alongside your team, and find healing through turning outwards.

It’s a lot more tight-knit than a big community forum and much more than a group chat. It’s about deep connection and effective accountability with peers.

—For those looking to quit addiction & stay sober—

Built upon the scientific principle that connection heals addiction, Relay offers a unique, team-based approach to help you make the improvement you want. Stop trying to do it alone and come strengthen your support system today!

—Support group types we currently offer—

We currently offer support groups to help you quit porn/masturbation, food addiction/eating disorder, smoking/vaping, gambling, and substance abuse.

Relay “A race needing a team to win”

As a runner I’ve ran plenty of Relays. A relay race is a race ran by 4 people in which the final time comes from the entire team working together with each individual in the races time equally important. It’s a personal and a team race. This app works the same way, everyone has there personal goals that they are trying to accomplish but work together as a team to help, remind, and be there if a teammate gets “injured” or is struggling. Each tries to do their best while helping the team do their best.
Though the race is hard, it must be done together! This app helped me keep track, remember and stay motivated in my goals. If your even questioning if you should or not the answer is yes.

Chandler here - creator of Relay. Couldn't have painted the analogy behind Relay better myself! It's such a special idea to consider the individual legs we each must "run" through the trials we deal with in life, but also inspiring to know that we really can band together with others with the same goal to achieve way more than we ever could on our own.

So happy you're here in our community!

LOVE THIS APP

I'm a female struggling with sexual self mastery and I'm SO grateful I found this app. I joined a recovery group earlier this year and made significant progress and then when I graduated and quit going to the group a couple months ago, I started slipping again. That's when I found Tribe and it's been helping so much. The pulse checks are a game changer... they're similar to my old habits I would do in my group to keep me checking in throughout the day. The app has made it way easier to accomplish though! I'm now celebrating my small wins too and feeling peaceful again and not feeling like I'm white knuckling all the time :) Thank you for this amazing app and I hope anyone struggling can find Tribe!!

The stigma and isolation can be sooo tough -- especially as a female. Thank you for being so brave in sharing your experience. We're so happy to hear that you've been able to celebrate the little wins and feel peaceful again! We're so glad you're a part of the community!

Real connection is hard through an app

The developers have said that the app is partly based on the assertion that the opposite of addiction is not sobriety but connection. This is an assertion with potential promise, but it’s difficult to take a handful of random strangers and facilitate real connection between them using only text messaging as a means of communication.

This is especially true given that people with addictive tendencies and personalities often have significant personal difficulties in connecting with other people already. I was hopeful when I found this app, but struggled to feel like I was connecting in any meaningful way with other members of my group.

Having said that, the app provides a number of valuable tools for accountability, for self reflection and self discovery, and for positive neural reinforcement. Plus, it works hard to facilitate conversation and connection between group members, offering regular prompts and encouragement to share and open up.

The success of these connection tools depends not only on one’s personal investment, but on the investment of other group members, which means there isn’t really a way to know how successful it will be. And let’s face it, personal growth is long, difficult, and extremely complicated.

First off - thank you so much for leaving such a thoughtful, considerate review. You're definitely spot on in your assessment: real connection is hard through an app. When we first set out to work on Relay, we realized that the app itself can only do so much; at some point, a user's decision to commit and engage is paramount. That said, we're extremely focused on continuing to make effective, meaningful connection something that is consistent for everyone who puts the effort into the app.

We're working on a number of improvements and initiatives right now that we're excited about, but we definitely want ongoing feedback to continue to make this the best virtual group-based platform in the world. We know it's a tough problem to solve, but it's one that we're deeply committed to. Again, thank you for your support and thoughts!
