Update failure & app confusion - try this

If like us you have had your heater for a while, attempted the firmware update via App1 (the old app) and got a message saying the update failed contact customer support, then did so, being told sorry please ignore the update (this being 24 December), you may then have found your heater app and heater were not talking to each other via App1. No more recirculating or schedule.

Then marketing sends out an email (24 Dec) which doesn’t tell you what to do if you are supposedly in between having updated (successfully I presume?) and not.

So today (29 Dec) I took the plunge and downloaded App2. It’s a mess yes, BUT, we can (for now) get the recirculation to work by putting the heater in vacation mode. Thanks for the fix advice from other App2 reviewers.

So hopefully if you are stuck halfway like we were, this might help you at least save water and have your heater half working.

Rinnai what were you thinking trying to roll this out in the holiday season? A fancy interface is meaningless if the core functionality is inoperable. Epic 2020 (aka FAIL)

Hot water with just a tap of our phone

We love the functionality we get with this app of being able to start the hot water recirculating with just a tap of our phone when we are ready to shower or wash dishes. Our schedule varies a good deal, so rather than having our hot water on continuous recirculation all day long, we are quite happy to have it on demand.
The app comes with preset periods of time for how long we can have it re-circulate. Those options are 5 minutes, and then it jumps to 30 minutes. We would prefer an option of 15 minutes of recirculating and would probably use that most often if it was offered.
We have saved a great deal of water and time since we no longer have to sit at the sink or shower and wait while water just pours down the drain for 3 minutes before the hot water finally arrives.
One negative with the app is it seems to go off-line fairly easily, and for some odd reason when we reconnect we have to re-enter our login and password. We don’t find this app for our Apple Watch, and we would love for Rinnai to add a watch app as well.
This app also gives the functionality of allowing us to set a schedule for when we want the water to re-circulate, and it is easy to use. This is a very good app that has saved us water and time.

The trick to fix the page flip when turning on recirculation

Like many here there is some frustration with this iteration of the app. One of the big issues is turning on the instant recirculation because the app pages flip back to the home page after going to the time selection page. The fix is to hold the the recirculating button down in the app for 2-3 seconds before releasing and selecting an amount of time for the water to instantly recirculate. The extra time to hold the button seems to work and the app page won’t instant flip back to the homepage before selecting an amount of recirculating time. Enjoy!
