The 3 parameters needed by every elite rower are the stroke rating, distance and time. This app provides exactly that.
The app can detect pieces automatically through variations in stroke rating. The duration and length of the piece are displayed on the blue bands in the top right of the screen, while the duration and the length of the training are displayed at the bottom of the screen.
The app has two display modes : dark (the default) & light. The icon at the top left corner allows the user to toggle the modes.
The app does NOT store your training data.
If your phone is NOT water proof, please make sure that you use a water proof case to avoid possible water damage to your phone.
If there are any issues with the app or you are dissatisfied for any reason, please contact me directly, I will do my best to fix any problems you encounter or refund your money.
Thank you all for all your kind words of encouragement, feedback and support!
This update adds the following:
-Improved accuracy on the stroke rating.

-500 meter split

- I am sure I have unwillingly added some bugs too but we will fix them as soon as we catch them :)
I hope the app makes your outing that much more fun!

Beats the $400+ “Stroke Watches”!
Just came across this app today and tested it out on my maiden row in San Francisco with a couple of peeps from SERC ( South End Rowing Club).
The app is very simple and intuitive to use. Stroke rating is quite accurate and the automatic tracking of pieces is a really cool feature. Beats the 400$ plus physical stroke watches out there.” Hope the Dev will keep the app up to date and release new features!
Great idea, but doesn’t work
I have tried using this app multiple times in my 8s and 4s and everything works except for the stroke rate which was my only reason for the purchase. If there is an upgrade planned that would make the app functional I would be happy to wait for it. Otherwise I would appreciate a refund.
Developer Response ,
We are very sorry you are experiencing these issues with our app. We know how frustrating such things can be particularly during a training and we fully empathize.
We are very keen on providing the best rowing app experience possible and therefore we will do our best to fix for the issues you have encountered. If possible, your input and feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Would you mind describing the issue in more details?
- Was the device fixed before the session was initiated (before pressing start)?
- Was the device moved during the session?
- Did the app detect any strokes at all or was it always displaying 0 Strokes per Minute?
The reason for these questions is that the app calibrates itself based on the position/inclination the device is fixed at. If the device is not fixed properly on the boat and is wobbly or was moved while the session is ongoing, the app might not detect the stroke rating at all or it might detect the wrong stroke rating.
We have tested the app thoroughly with numerous devices (iPhone 5, iPhone 7, iPhone X and the iPad Pro), the stroke rating was consistently accurate and reliable. Despite our best effort some bugs must have made their way into our code but we will find them and fix them :)
We would be happy to issue you a refund and for your inconvenience we would even issue a voucher to download the app for free afterwards. As, there is no direct way for developers to do either, I have reached out to Apple support. The official reply I have received is that you would need to go through iTunes Support at the following url. https://support.apple.com/itunes. Once you do and the refund is issued, please reach out to us through our website: http://rowingmetrics.com/contact.php, we will then be happy to provide you with the voucher so you can re-download the app for free.
We are also close to pushing out an update (in the coming weeks) which will improve the accuracy of the stroke rating detection and add the 500m split many of our users have asked for.
Once more we truly apologize for the unpleasant experience you had so far and we hope you find our proposal acceptable.
