Invaluable Tool, Constantly Evolving
Pacifica, especially the premium version, has been invaluable to my mental health. It’s got an array of tools for you to use daily, including mood trackers, meditations, health trackers, a hope board, thoughts, and goals. Each tool has a number of options to choose from, and it’s likely you’ll find at least one thing helpful to you and your situation. They also have guided paths, which are daily tools to help you change the way you think. In addition, they also have community boards and a chat feature, which supremely help to know you’re not alone and to be able to read what other people found helpful. Everything put together is a great resource for treating anxiety and depression. The free version is useful in itself, but I fell in love with the “guided paths” and wanted more out of it. The price of the app does not compare to the benefits I’ve received through consistent use of the app. One of the best parts is the involvement of one of the creators. He’s always on the boards addressing issues people are having with the app, and they do their best to keep everyone informed on what’s to come. They make updates and keep the app fresh. You can tell they care about the work they’re doing, and I’m happy to be a Pacifica user. Highly recommend you give the app a try if you experience anxiety or depression.
overall a good app
This app is nice to have to keep track of your daily thoughts and feelings and track your progress and the meditations are nice but some of the wording used throughout the app makes me a little uncomfortable. When I tried to put in my name for the community posts or whatever it said “this name is not unique” and I assume that’s because it was already taken but it’s a really weird way to say it and for me at least it kind of turns it into a negative thought which is stupid but that was just my initial response and I think it could have been prevented with better wording. I also took the assessment for the first time and one of the questions asked if I still feel good about myself even when others look down on my illness which to me is kinda weird. I don’t think anyone feels good about themselves when someone looks down on them for something they can’t really control and especially not someone with anxiety/depression/self-image issues so that’s never really gonna be an “i feel great” moment but whatever. Another question referred to mental illness as “behavioral health issues” which seems inaccurate and kind of negative for someone who’s trying to better their mental health. Overall it’s a good app but some things are just a little weird and I think it could be improved by being a little more sensitive especially since it’s advertised as a tool to help people deal with and improve their mental illness.
Developer Response ,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful, detailed review. The prompts for a unique name in the community are to encourage anonymity, so names that are abstract and contain numbers work well–something like your user name here on the review.:) As for the assessments, these are clinical assessments that we've put in the app to allow users to measure their progress. We haven't modified the language of these assessments, and understand where you're coming from with sensitivity to some of the terms used. That's great feedback we'll take back to the team. Thanks again.
Excellent tool to manage mental health
I've been using this app for about a week now. It has several tools for managing mental health- I feel like a lot of mental health is noticing patterns, and this app is really good for that- you can log exercise, meals, family time, and other habits (both good and bad), there is a place to log your mood (which is made of three parts, you describe your mood on a good-to-bad wheel, and then you can optionally both tag words to describe your mood, and write out accompanying thoughts, which is good depending on if you do/don't have much time). I am recommending this to everyone I love who struggles with managing mental health. They have a lot of good, bite-sized meditations too. There's more tools than what I've described (thought exercises) but they are very elegantly laid out so it's not cluttering or overwhelming. A lot of CBT-style thought management, creates some good mental patterns for examining thoughts and not letting them spiral out of control- A very useful tool for someone who struggles with depression and anxiety. I am very grateful to the creators of this app. Cool that you can sync it to your therapist too so they have ability to see how you did over the week (caus it can graph your data over time). Thank you Pacifica.
