This major update gives the Science News Magazine app a new look with new features: - the ability to view in portrait and landscape orientations - a text-only reader view of each page - a preview mode for every issue - seamless access for Science News subscribers - continuation of iTunes subscriptions. After updating, iTunes subscribers will need to select “Restore purchases” under Settings to re-download back issues.

The biweekly publication is enhanced for the iPad with bonus material, including slideshows, videos and other multimedia content. Download Improvements 1. Background download- When downloading an issue of the magazine, you can can switch to a different app, check e-mail or view a different issue of SN Prime, and your new issue will continue to download. Note that the download pauses after 10 minutes and you can only download one issue at a time. 2. Auto-view during download - Tap the Download or Buy button in the viewer library, and you can immediately start reading SN Prime while articles continue to download. 3. Auto-download on subscription purchase - When you subscribe to SN Prime, the most recent issue of the magazine will download automatically. Hot Zones Enabled 1. Next/Previous buttons- Tap the right and left edges of the article to browse to the next or previous articles. 2. Navigation button - Tap the bottom of the page to display the navigation bars. Tapping the page anywhere above the bottom hot zone no longer displays the navigation bars. Social Sharing Enhancements 1. Expanded web viewer support - Web viewer now supports Internet Explorer 10/Windows 8. 2. Facebook - When viewing a wall post in the iPad Facebook app, tapping the SN Prime article link opens the article directly. Library TOC & About Us Buttons Removed -The TOC and About Us buttons are no longer in the SN Prime App Library, but you can view a full table of contents, issue description and teaser to the Column for current and past issues of SN Prime at www.sciencenewsprime.org. Annual Subscriptions Removed -As of January 1, 2013, SN Prime will no longer offer an annual subscription renewal option through iTunes. Instead, we will offer a lower rate on an automatically renewed monthly subscription at $3.99. (Cost of a single issue will remain at $2.99). -Pinch-and-Zoom: Use two fingers to zoom in on most pages (not available on scrolling pages) to increase the size of text, images and videos. -Social Sharing: A new button in the upper right corner of the library allows readers to post messages about their favorite articles and share a link to that issue of SN Prime on Facebook. -Bookmarks: A new button in the upper right corner of the library allows readers to collect a list of favorite articles. This is App-wide, so the reader can collect articles from different issues of the magazine in one place. -Auto-Archive: After readers have downloaded more than 12 issues of the magazine, the oldest downloaded issue is automatically archived. Customers can turn this function on or off using the device settings button in the upper right corner of the library. Customers can re-download any archived issue at no additional cost. -Library Updates: When returning to the library, the viewer now checks only for changes, resulting in faster processing. The “cannot update library” error message should appear less frequently. -SN Prime is now a horizontal-only publication.
