SciTE is an extendable development environment for editing and processing source code and markup language files. Extremely customizable, SciTE can be tailored to particular projects and work flows. Your preferred tools can be easily integrated into SciTE. The environment can be extended using the Lua scripting language. Asian language files in multi-byte encodings like Shift JIS are handled natively with no conversions which avoids possible corruption. For documentation and display, files may be exported with highlighting to various formats including LaTeX and PDF.

learning lua but

I have used a combination of BBedit and the terminal for working with Lua for a while. However, there is a new upgrade for BBEdit that costs nearly as much as this app. I tried looking around for info and in a few places read that SiTe is generally better than BBEdit. One reason that I bought this app because it was highly recommended in the book BEGINNING LUA WITH WORLD OF WARCRAFT ADDONS, and that the app include a “Go” function. That looked like I could do just about everything from this one app.When I tried running a current lua file from the app, I got this message:>lua5.1 "fact.lua"shell-init: error retrieving current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories: Operation not permitted/bin/bash: lua5.1: command not found>Exit code: 0I guess that this is combination of permissions and the fact that I have Lua 5.3.3 which installed on my home directory when I followed the Lua installation/make instructions. The /bin/bash:lua5.1 looks windowish to me????

SciTE is a great, highly extensible, and fast text editor. I use it mainly to edit R and LaTeX files. The developer and the SciTE mailing list provide nearly instant feedback on any problems that may arise. Previously I had tried BBEdit, TextWrangler, Fraise, and Tincta. I find this text editor be far superior for my needs (they were either too bloated, no longer in development and buggy, or didn't have the features I wanted).I highly recommend this editor.
