okay yes. i am not a scrabble pro. i am far from being a scrabble pro. but i love this game! it keeps me occupied and it makes me think. i mean - i made words that i never knew existed! i don’t like writing reviews. it takes valuable time, but after using this app for about a month (ish) i give it a huge thumbs up. i know you’ve seen some pretty crappy reviews (or you soon will if you haven’t already). i have not run into an issue with anything and i know one person had the complaint of “not for scrabble pros” or something. not saying those reviews aren’t valid, but if you’re like me and need something to do other than school or work, try this app out. you may hate it, but you may also throughly enjoy this app (like myself) and discover new words as well as a rush of adrenaline as you compete against people who may be 3x your age (which is perfectly ok!) but try it out. it doesn’t hurt. you’re not paying for it. what’s the worse that can happen? you hate it? ok, you delete it and you vehemently disagree with my review. if that’s the case, ok! thanks for reading :)

A UI Disaster

Imagine developing an app during the modern era, with decades of UI research and deciding to ignore all of it in favor of a Words with Friends clone that somehow is even more horrendously glitzy and unnavigatable. There’s the main screen with a terrible album view of a miscellaneous assortment of options, including people to challenge. Underneath that is a button to start a new game, that leads to a new screen where you can again, pick modes that were on the main screen coupled with a few new ones. Below that, there’s another album view of active games, that include starting games with people who are definitely bots (that you can’t remove) along with more options to, you know, start a new game. Look, if I can’t describe a simple screen to people who read this review, imagine trying to actually navigate this monstrosity.

Of course, all of this is in the backdrop of a color palette that makes your eyes bleed. It’s like they took the graphical assets from their (I assume) equally unsuccessful past apps and just pasted them in. Imagine seeing the success of Words with Friends and deciding that the reason for their success is not the ease in which it connects people together, but in the outlandish cartoonish bastardization of a classic board game that requires you to navigate through three screens just to match with someone in order to play a traditional game of scrabble without “power ups”. Just imagine.

Loser App Developers ,

So many things wrong with this app it’s hard to know where to start. The main thing I object to is being held hostage to watch their idiotic animations. This has nothing to do with them making money, which I know a lot of other people have objected to; this is just about their developers so proud of their work that they want to force us to watch this idiocy when instead we want to make a move. The worst is when the tile animations prevent you from actually making the next move. And another outrage is when they match you with someone who actually doesn’t want to play with you, but then even when the person quits the game after one or two moves, they make you watch the stupid statistics about which was the longest word, which was the highest scoring word...It’s bad enough to watch it at the end of a long game, but here it’s even worse. Yet another example of them holding you hostage to watch all their idiotic animations about things you don’t care about. Then there’s a strange phone icon with a red exclamation point in it, which means nothing if you’re not playing on a phone. What else? There’s so much that’s bad. E.g., you can never really tell whether you have a chat or not because it looks as if you do but then you don’t. Hopeless, why did they have to ruin it? It was fine when it was with EA but this company is obviously just appallingly bad.
