Seasonality Core 4+

This is one of the best desktop weather information programs I have found. I would rate it 5 stars this five stars however the program has not been updated in over a year. They talked about some really great features coming a year ago and here we are. I think the program is well worth the price in its current state. I don’t like to spend money on products if I am not confident they are going to be fixing bugs and adding features etc.

Weather radar data is avaiable free of charge, NOAA's site has powerful resourses for viewing and manipulating radar data,

I do like the interface of Seasonality Core however the radar map is very cumbersom and you cannot customize the "feel" as much as I would like, especially with a price point over $20 USD - The loop feature is very buggy and shudders & studders quite a lot.

I would recommend this program for the very basic weather enthusiast but would not recommend it for anyone with even the slightest technical knowledge of meteorology or the manipulation of weather data

Overall, excellent. Totally worth the money IMO. This application now has a permanent spot on a second monitor.

The particle system indicating airflow is particularly well done. Speed, direction and air temperature all in one intuitive bit of graphic artistry. I'd even go so far as to say it's pretty.

The graphing area combines prediction, currect conditions, and history for a wealth of weather data in readily comprehended form. Much better than Apple's Weather app as supplied with Ventura.

Another reviewer noted (complained, really) that weather data is available for free. NOAA, etc. This is true. The added value here is puting it all at our fingertips in a consumable and useful form (still free... you're not being charged for data. You're being charged, once, for the application. No subscription, thank you very much for not subjecting us to that now-common abuse, developer.) Yes, if you're a meterology buff, you'll probably want more. Most of us aren't that. Most of us just want to know what's going on and what we might expect going forward. This application does a terriffic job of providing that information.

Cons:

o You can't re-order the weather graphs in this version (although you can turn them on and off individually); so the graphs that are most important to the individual user can't be placed adjacent to one another. Click, hold and drag would be awesome for this. Or even just an orderable list. Just so long as there is a means to choose to put the humidity graph next to temperature graph instead of multiple graphs away from each other (for instance.)

o I'd like to see more cities on the map. For instance, there's a town west of us about 70 miles that serves as a good map reference for both storm direction and time to impact. Most of our storms come from the west, so on the NOAA weather map, it's a very useful cue. A slider to set the density of town displays would be great.

o It would be nice to have an in-window mechanism to change preset locations. One of MacOS's great warts is the menu can be very far away from the application window. It's worse lately with high resolution, large screen displays. Someday, perhaps Apple will add menus where they belong - in application window title bars. Until then, providing controls for commonly accessed functionality in application windows is on the developer.

[Update:] The following bug/behavior has gone away; perhaps a data collection error was fixed at the source. I didn't grab a new version, it just fixed itself from my perspective. In any case, no longer a concern.

o [fixed] Apparent bug: The moon rise/set ring in the astro data does not appear to work. Mine shows the moon as visible all day and all night.
