Description
SendToX (previously called 7toX) brings your Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro 7 or 6 XML into Final Cut Pro X so you can use Apple’s powerful new professional editing tools to update or finish your older projects. The lightweight application is simple to use, with drag-and-drop support and progress information. SendToX translates important metadata from your Project XML — including bins, clips, subclips and sequences — to a new Event in Final Cut Pro X with the highest fidelity of any translation application for Final Cut Pro. In addition, the application provides clear, detailed reporting after every translation.
Requirements:
• Final Cut Pro version 10.0.6 or later
• An application that exports Final Cut Pro XML (such as Premiere Pro CC, Final Cut Pro 7 or 6 , DaVinci Resolve, etc.)
IMPORTANT: Final Cut Pro 7 will not run on macOS High Sierra 10.13 or later!
Simplicity
Choose from three simple methods to translate Final Cut Pro 7 XML to Final Cut Pro X XML:
• Run SendToX and use the Open dialog to locate your exported XML file
• Drag-and-drop the XML file onto the SendToX application icon
• Right-click on the XML file in the Finder and choose Open With > SendToX
SendToX displays a progress bar during XML translation and, when completed, adds the new Event to the Event Library. The Event contains clips for each media file and Compound Clips for each sequence.
SendToX supports both Final Cut Pro X and the Final Cut Pro X Trial.
Fidelity
SendToX produces the highest fidelity translation of your Final Cut Pro Project, including the following conversions:
• Bins become Keyword Collections, complete with original Log Notes and comments
• Sequences become Compound Clips and are tagged with a “Sequences” keyword to make them easy to find
• Multicam Clips are fully supported
• Original track structures are represented by Roles
• PICT files are automatically converted to TIFF files
• 31 transitions are translated to matching transitions
• 72 video FxPlug and FxScript filters are translated to matching video filters
• 32 audio filters are translated to matching audio filters
• Layered Photoshop files are accurately translated to Layered Photoshop files in Final Cut Pro X
• Motion Tab settings (Scale, Rotation, Center, Crop, Distort and Opacity) are translated to Transform settings (Scale, Rotation, Position, Crop, Distort and Compositing Opacity)
• Composite Modes are translated to matching Compositing Blend Modes
• Constant speed changes are translated
Transparency
SendToX adds red to-do markers to items that have been changed or substituted during translation. You can easily view these markers in the Timeline Index in Final Cut Pro X, and quickly jump to a specific marker to review any change in context in the timeline.
Frequently Asked Questions:
• Does it work with .fcp project files? - The Final Cut Pro project file is a binary format proprietary to Apple. The XML must be exported from FCP 6 or 7.
• Does it work with Final Cut Pro 6 or 5? - User testing shows that SendToX does work with XML from FCP 6 and 5. We have a concern with speed changes as that changed with version 7.
• Does it work with Final Cut Express? - Unfortunately Final Cut Express does not export XML, which is what SendToX translates. It is possible, if you have an accommodating friend, to import your project (with media) into Final Cut Pro and then export Final Cut Pro 7 (or 6) XML.
What’s New
Version 1.2.5
• Bug fix to ignore timecode in AIFF files from Final Cut Pro 7
• Bug fix for titles created in Premiere Pro
• Bug fix for an error raised by markers without a name element
Ratings and Reviews
Excellent Utility App for FCP 7 / X
This application is an excellent and necessary addition for anyone who has been editing in FCP 7 and wants or needs to transfer a sequence to FCP X. I have read some of the reviews and I think people have been a little harsh on this program. Yes, some things don't translate perfectly but when translating/transferring something this drastically different as far as workflow is concerned I think it does the job. I needed it for a project I was working on for a client that I started in FCP X but they had an early cut they had done in FCExpress. I opened their older project in FCP 7.0.3 (again, I think they may have edited in FCExpress) I relinked the media, exported the XML, opened 7toX for Final Cut Pro, it asked me if I wanted to open it in FCP X and boom! I had this multilayered timeline in FCP X from FCP 7. Excellent! For me, I come from the days of dealing with all kinds of post issues (anyone remember matchback-editing 24fps on a 30fps system with no other option?) The few incorrect elements that occurred (text alignment and size, mainly) were minute. This extremely affordable application has given us something that Apple should have done in the first place - the ability to transfer an FCP7 timeline into FCPX. And I'm certain this application will continue to be developed and consistent as FCPX gets better.
Saves time and organized well
I've used this tool several times, but had to recently move a large project from Premiere Pro to Final Cut Pro. I am fully aware (and have tried in the past )of an not quite as thorough alternative process using Da Vinci Resolve as a go-between. The ressults of Send to X give me such a good starting point to continue an edit. Clips are organized in my browser, items are marked with pertinent information about changes, and important metadata is brought over. I don't expect any solution to be perfect when moving between any application, but I would not want to be without this tool as a starting point. The only thing that would make this better is for for synchronized clips or multicam clips in Premiere Pro to come over as those FCP-qualified synchronized and mutlicam clips; something I am not sure is possible with XML. Thank you for this tool.
Useless...
I discovered yesterday that the school upgraded computers in the lab and the new disk image no longer had Final Cut Pro 7 and now only have Final Cut Pro X. I needed to open one of my old projects and make ONE change and then render it out. I know the majority of blame lies on Apple for creating an upgrade of a software that was not compatible with previous versions, but all the hype about this app is just that hype. It didn't even work to recreate the project in the Project Manager. And all of my carefully build timelines were missing. I understand that not all things were suppose to be translated, but not even the XML information such as the location of my source media came through in the translation. I suspect that the only type of file it will work for is a simple list of clips in the Project Window with one timeline, but from my experience it doesn't work for anything more complex, which every project with tons of meadia and mutiple time is, and for me that's every project. I spend $10 to import names of my clips that by the way were NOT linked to the source media. If I sound upset it's because I didn't just waste money I wasted TIME I didn't have trying the different export versions and seeing if I can fix up the project, reconnect media, all possible but it was faster to just rebuild my project. Like I said USELESS...
