Ratings and Reviews
Really good...Almost Great!
Far and away the easiet way to run HA as a native feeling server/app on your Mac. Its fast, stable, and smooth without having to mess around with Docker, Virtualization software, or another piece of hardware liike a Raspberry Pi. My only "complaint" is that I'm having trouble accessing a usb HD for external data storage from this HA set up. I'm hoping the developer can provide some guidance for this. If that can be sorted out, then its an easy 5 star rating hands down. Thanks Kenneth Kao!
Simple (Almost) One Click Solution
I used to run this app when I switched my home server to a Mac mini m1 and it worked great. When I switched to proxmox I (for very obvious reasons) stopped using it. When I then AGAIN went back to the Mac mini due to just size of the machine and lower power consumption I decided I’d run my own VM of home assistant over this app for the added control. The VM just didn’t want to boot up at start which made it annoying. Granted I didn’t restart the Mac mini all that much once it was up and running, but I still was worried I’d get home and I wouldn’t be able to control my lights. After trying for sometime and failing to get UTM and Parallels to boot at start up I gave up and just redownloaded this container and everything is back working. Sometimes the easiest solution is the best solution.
Great Value
Running on a 2020 M1 MacMini with 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD. As I write, I've been using this for 3 weeks to extensively tinker with Home Assistant (HA), and I am a happy camper so far. I'm a newbie to the HA world, and this has been a great way to start. It's clear that seperate from this app, the HA project itself is a hobbist work in progress and as fragile, if not more so, than any software -- and susceptible to mishaps, not if, but when. Be sure to maintain frequent backups and not to assume that all will be peaches and cream.
