Good after brief use, needs icon disable option

After a very brief use, this looks like a useful utility.

One missing item for me - the ability to disable showing icons in the Finder menu. I never used Dropbox Finder integration because I hated their use of icons, and really wish Service Station would make it possible to have no icons.

Why hate on icons - because it looks bad to me to have icons for some items and not others, and also because the "icon'ed" items don't lign up with the standard items in the Finder menu. It just looks non-standard, does not blend in.

Used it a bit more and noticed a delay in the context menu appearing:

1) Enable Service Station in Extensions prefs
2) Enable Service Station context menu on for ex. .txt files on the Desktop (open with <Some App>)
2) Right click on a .txt file on Desktop
3) Delay in context menu appearing (about 1/2 to 3/4 of a second

The context menu delay is not huge, but large enough to be noticeable. Delay goes away when disabling Service Station extension.

Developer Response ,

In the new v2020.4 update you can 'Hide Icon' for any menu item to hide the image, which lets you have text-only menu items. For the menu lag, I will open an issue on our support website that you can follow; please see the link on the App Store.

Useful app

My original review dinged the app because it wasn't obvious that the exisinting custom menu items could be deleted and a new one added. That done, I've tested it, and I'm happy to update my review and give it four stars as a very useful utility to have on my Mac.

Kudos to the developer for reaching out to let me know how to test the app.

Original review, for reference:

While this might be great, I'm unwilling to pay for it if I don't know that it will meet my needs, and there is no way to properly test it. The first attempt to add a custom menu item demands payment, basically sight-unseen.

I can understand a limit of one or two customizations, but zero? Not acceptable.

Developer Response ,

The free version of the app lets you customize FOUR rules without payment.

If you delete any of the default rules, or edit them, you will be able to fully customize that rule in the free version of the app.

The newest app update only includes 3 default rules. So you can press "+" once before paying. OR - customize or delete any of the 4 rules. You can delete the default Movies rules, for example, and use your own Rule instead.

I'm an independent developer. I'd appreciate an updated review once you are able to test the customization, thanks!

Not just another "Saved-you-a-Click" app

OK, maybe it is another "saved-you-a-click" app... but this one became indespensible in about 6 minutes. Plus, incredibly fast and responsive support to my dumb questions from the developer. Makes this one an easy recommendation and a must-install support app right alongside TextExpander and Alfred.
