Description
iMac screen is too bright for sensitive eyes. Shades is the solution. Shades is the utility for controlling the brightness of your iMac screen. When you use the iMac at night, you might find it is too bright for your eyes even though you have turned the screen to the darkest setting. This app comes to help. It makes really easy for you to change the screen to the darkest mode. It will make the screen much more comfortable to use. The app does not support the shades if other apps run in fullscreen mode.

No full screen app support
No full screen app support and you're forced to keep it in the dock. These two flaws really drag it down, particularly the former. Still, despite those flaws, it does a great job.
Works great in target display mode
I use my 27” iMac in target display mode with my MacBook Pro and had no way to control the brightness on the iMac. My keyboard only controlled the brightness of the laptop, which was of no use. Finally found this app and it adds shades to the iMac—Yeay! Problem solved.
This is a different version of the real shades
I used the original version of shades for many years and I loved it. This app store version does not allow upgrading to version 1.2, and when launched in yosemite it shows up on BOTH the task bar AND the dock, and it won’t allow you to remove it from the dock ( I’m sure someone has a secret squirrel method to do that). I have deleted this version and downloaded version 1.2, which works like it always did, from the charcoal site.
