This application plays the sounds of a ship's bell every hour and half hour. The strike of a ship's bell are used to regulate the sailors' duty watches. Unlike a regular clock, the strikes of the bell do not correspond to the number of the hour. Instead, there are eight bells, one for each-half hour of a four-hour watch.

By design, the app just plays the Ship's Bells in the background, which enables one to tell the time without looking at a time piece - just as they did in the early days of sailing.

I'd love to have this app running in the background at home all the time, but it needs a little tweak. Normal ship's bell clocks have a nice ding..ding.. sound. Unfortunately, this app goes CLANG!..CLANG! There's even a loud hissing sound in the background of the bell ringing. All of the other things aside that it would be nice to have in this app, they would be useless if you can't stand the loud obnoxious CLANGING it makes.

Works exactly as advertised but two enhancements would be nice

App does exactly what it is supposed to do and the bell sound is good. Two modifications would make it 5 stars though, first a volume control in the app, a slider or even a high/low switch. I like my phone ringer nice and loud but then the bells are really loud. Second, I have a "real" ships bell clock at home so the ability to set on/off times would be helpful since I don't need two clocks going off, inevitably at slightly different times.

Stopped working

Actually it does work after the iOS 5 update. However, you must adjust the notification settings.

A volume setting in the app itself might get you 5 stars.
