Description
The Short Vowel Rocket Game is a phonics based game for older children who struggle with reading and may have dyslexia. This game will give the child practice in identifying short vowel sounds. Often, games at this phonics level are created for young children, this game is for those that are age 7+.
The child will identify the short vowel in a word that is called out, (s)he will blow up the asteroid with the corresponding short vowel sound. An alien spaceship will come along to try and destroy the player's ship, so (s)he better watch out!
This game is targeted for those who struggle to read or may have dyslexia. It corresponds to the reading program, Blast Off to Reading! However, it is not necessary to be using that particular program.

Ratings and Reviews
No sound
I am wondering if this app works on IPads. My mute is off, volume is all the way up and there is no sound. Please let me know if I am missing something. Thanks
Developer Response ,
Hi AMFC18! I am very sorry that you have had problems with the sound. Unfortunately, developers aren't notified when a review is made, so this was not seen until very recently.
For every customer who has contacted us regarding no sound has had either their mute set to on, or the ringer turned off. Often they don't even know this. If you use headphones and can get the sound, then you have one of the settings set so no sound happens. If you tried using headphones and still get no sound (with the headphones), please call or text us at 631-780-4206.
Disappointed
I had hoped that these apps would be a quality addition to my OG instruction. I wish there was an option for playing that did not involve shooting or blowing something up.
Developer Response ,
Hi OG Teacher! We understand your desire for something that does not involve shooting, however, we find that these type of games are more exciting for older students (age 8+) and they often look forward to playing these games after the lesson (from our Blast Off to Reading! reading program). This "buy in" is often what is needed for many students. With that said, please check out our "I Can Fly" games which is geared for younger students (there's no shooting or blowing up anything). You can play free for 10 minutes to check out the games and activities, then you'll be asked to enter a code from the book that goes with the game app. If interested, you can find it this at this link: https://www.blastofftoreading.com/HTML5%20games/I%20Can%20Read%20Game/index.html.
Not great
The quality isn't good and the pronunciation is horrendous.
Developer Response ,
We've tested our apps on different iPads and iPhones and notice that the sound quality is dependent on the speakers. For example, the iPad Pro has the best quality sound, whereas older iPhones are lacking. Please try using headphones instead of using your devices speakers. In addition, the voice was recently updated and improved.
