  • More privacy

We need a feature that stops unknown people/numbers from ever messaging you in the first place.Right now, if you’re in a public group chat, anyone can just randomly DM you… of course you can choose if you want to accept that message or not, but honestly I don’t think these guys should even make it that far.Cut off their ability to even send you a message in the first place. We need this feature!!

  • Messaging blocked until you update!! (Fixed!)

Update: It seems they've now addressed this issue - thank you!If your Signal version happens to be outdated, rather than doing what every other app does and prompt the user to update upon launching it, Signal will give no indication, and instead it will stop delivering ALL messages with absolutely NO feedback to the user. This is terrible UX and I unfortunately cannot recommend Signal as a reliable platform until they implement intuitive messaging for necessary software updates.

  • Best privacy you’re gonna get

Probably ten or twelve years ago I tried using Signal and had to stop because of some kind of bug, certain users couldn’t see me. Well, for two years or so now I’ve been using it as my default message app and there have been no bugs. And it does voice and video and everything just works. My high-powered geek friends assure me this is pretty much the state of play for privacy. The best option around in 2025.

  • I love the concept

The idea of an open source completely private messaging service, not paid for by corporations or governments, is one of the last few truly independent and free parts of the internet. I would trust Signal with my private communications more than any other for-profit service out there, even if they claim to be “end to end encrypted”Let us all just hope that Signal doesn’t have any back doors into the government’s prying eyes. :)

Signal is a great app. I’ve been using it for years and it has consistently performed well, had all the features I could ask for in a secure messaging app, and not tried to be something it isn’t (with maybe the exception of the Snapchat-like “stories” feature, but it’s tucked away so I don’t mind it). The commitment to privacy is always encouraging to see especially in today’s surveillance-heavy world.
