It does the basics

I finally caved and bought this because I got a new laptop and my favorite app of this type, Amplify, appears to no longer be available. I liked that better because the song title was in the menu bar and clicking would provide additional information and controls (whereas with this app only an icon is in the menu bar and all information is accessed by clicking). The pop-up at the start of each song is kind of nice but also distracting. The album art would be great if it wasn’t always a song behind (Drake’s face showing up during an MC Lars song was a pretty easy tip-off, though apparently if you hit the “play/pause” button on the keyboard it somehow catches up, as that just happened to me). Also I assume the time remaining is the time remaining in the playlist or something? Currently it’s 64:27:54, so literally useless. This app does everything it claims to, it just doesn’t do those things well. $3 still feels steep but I was desperate.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for the feedback! We are working on a fix for the the time remaining.

Works well enough

The menu bar buttons work perfectly. However, the mini window has trouble displaying the seek bar and album art. Also, Skip Tunes consume a bit more CPU power than you'd expect (a tad bit more than iTunes itself).

Developer Response ,

This was recently fixed! Working on a fix for the CPU power draw

Love this app! Lets me create custom keyboard shortcuts to play/pause/skip tracks

I don’t understand all the negative reviews. I’ve been using this app for years and love it! I rarely use the menus to play/pause/skip tracks though. Instead, and this is way easier, I created my own custom keyboard shortcuts, making it so I don’t have to keep going back to iTunes or even Skip Tunes menus.

To create custom keyboard shortcuts, click the Skip Tunes icon at the top of your screen, click the gear icon at the bottom-right of the Skip Tunes window, select Preferences. Then, click the “Shortcuts” tab at the top of the Preferences window. From there, create your own shortcuts. For Pause/Play Track I use Command-UpArrow; for Next Track I use Command-RightArrow; and for Previous Track I use Command-LeftArrow.

Works like a charm! Well worth $2.99!
