The five stages of sleep, including their repetition, occur cyclically. The first cycle, which ends after the completion of the first REM stage, usually lasts for 90 minutes.
With 8 hours of sleep you typically go through 4-5 cycles a night. Waking up in the middle of a cycle leaves you feeling groggy, but waking up at the end of a cycle leaves you feeling awake and alert. This app gives you recommendations on when to wake up in the morning to decrease the likelihood that you will feel groggy.

Nice, simple, with reminders
I like this app. It is very simple and easy to use. It will add a reminder to tell you when to go to bed. I like the color scheme a lot. It also includes the date when selecting a time which can be very helpful. There are no customization options for time to fall asleep or number of cycles to display, although I don't think they are needed. It uses 15 min as the time needed to fall asleep which results in nice round numbers in 15 min intervals. It shows 6 cycles that are colored very nicely with 5 to 6 cycles both being green, although it doesn't list the number of cycles next to the times and doesn't list the total sleep time. The input dial hasn't been updated for the new iOS but still looks good with the rest of the app design. Overall I really like this app the best out of all the other similar types of sleep calculators.
I've been using this app quite a bit for about a year to get an idea of when I should go to bed to get a good amount of sleep. The new update is certainly a step in the right direction as it had been quite a while since since any form of update had hit this app. However, new strides often don't come without their faults. The issue I have this nee update is it can be glitchy when inputting a time to wake to get the suggested wake up times. I will enter 9:00 AM and tap out of the selection box to have the list update. Instead, it will set whatever time I put behind by one hour, in this case it will say 8:00 AM, which is incredibly frustrating.
