Many AAC apps target higher functioning learners, and, to their credit, serve that population very well. However, there is a significant hole in the AAC app landscape for individuals with significant intellectual disabilities. We designed So Much 2 Say from the ground up with the intention to fill that hole. There is no longer a need to spend hundreds of dollars on an app filled with features that are unsuitable to the individual.

So Much 2 Say was developed with two distinct classes of users in mind: the Learner and the Administrator. The Administrator is one of several people that work with the Learner (parents, therapists, teachers, school & hospital staff, etc.) who make changes to the app’s configuration as the Learner progresses. We believe that both classes of users’ needs must be catered to in order to realize the full potential of the learning process.

We’ve simplified the interface to the bare necessities: the cards themselves. In it’s simplest form, you have a single card. Touch the card, and you hear a familiar voice, verbalizing what was tapped. As the Learner progresses, more cards can be made visible. Once multiple pages of cards are being routinely accessed, the concept of categories can be introduced, and the Learner can navigate in a more hierarchical fashion.

not worth what i paid for it

there seems to be a fault in the program. i had not used it for a while, now only the cards appear on the navigation page without pictures. i cant change the sentence starter card now so it seems to be getting worse. if i re-downloaded it, would that help?

Scroll lock is faulty

Tapping the lock icon to prevent scrolling does not work consistently. I had to tap several times to get the screen to even lock. Then my special needs child who doesn't have the fine motor skills to point to objects was able to easily unlock the scroll lock by wiggling her fingers in fast random movements across the screen. Also by her wiggling her fingers on the screen she routinely exits the app and returns to the iPad home screen. Unfortunately because of the glitch in the scroll lock and her ability to exit the app, I do not think this app will work for us.

Even better than expected

My husband and I spent hours comparing all the different apps to choose from for our autistic preschooler. What made us finally decide on this one was the very reasonable cost, the aesthetics, and it seemed easy to set up. We've been using it for a few weeks and don't regret it one bit. It's SO easy to import photos and set up the card into categories. It's making meal time and bedtime routines go much smoother because he loves touching the picture and doing what it says. The recording quality is great it encourages our son to repeat the words he hears.

The only changes I'd like to see in the future is to also allow voice recording to the actual category files so we can record "I want to eat..." and then choose a food card from there. Also, it might be nice to customize the colors of the background, I.e. yellow for morning routine, blue for bed.
