The Social Detective Intermediate app is meant to be the next addition to the Social Detective Beginner app and a companion to the You are a Social Detective book By Michelle Garcia Winner and Pamela Crooke. The Social Detective Intermediate app picks up where the Beginner app leaves off and focuses on decoding the thoughts and emotions of people students interact with day to day. Using this information, students will make smart guesses to predict what those people might do or say next.
Social Detective Intermediate App Vocabulary:
Smart Guesses: This is when we use all of our tools (remembering, seeing, hearing, knowing and feeling) to figure things out and then, make a guess based on what we know about the world. Smart guesses are "expected" and make others have good thoughts about us because they know we are trying to figure things out!
Social Detective Tools: We all have social detective tools that we can use all of the time to help us figure out people and places. These important tools are: eyes, ears and brains, and of course, understanding feelings of others. (Often feelings are represented with a picture of a heart.)
Social Thinker: Each of us is a "social thinker" every day. This means we are always aware that people are around us and having thoughts about each of our behaviors. We are social thinkers, even when people are not talking to, or playing with us. All of us should be social thinkers each day.
Exercises Within The Social Detective Intermediate app:
The Notebook - Allows students to practice being a social decoder, by making a smart guess on the thoughts, emotions, and guesses the characters in the social scenes are experiencing.
The Flashlight - Allows students to practice being a social detective, and identify what is seen, or heard, to help the character in the social scene make a smart guess, figure out what others are thinking and finally, predict what they will do next.

Why are the videos perpetuating stereotypes of P.O.C. being the wrong doers? As I work with students at the elementary level in social skills, I would expect a product that was assisted in ideas from a woman of color to have videos that do not support racist ideas. Stop making white people afraid of people of color.

We apologize a video prompt was offensive to you. We will take your feedback into consideration. In our design, we were very intentional in providing scenarios that included children and adults of all races in different social situations. These videos are meant to illustrate expected and unexpected behaviors in different social situations, not specific wrong doing. Thank you for your feedback.
I am very familiar with Social Thinking products and have been several trainings by Michelle Garcia Winner. I have the CD version of Social Detective (beginner) and was very pleased so I was excited to purchase the intermediate version for my IPad. Unfortunately, the majority of the video scenarios with the exception of 2 or 3 are featured in the beginner version so it basically is the same thing which I already have (and they could probably use some updating). I was hoping when it said "intermediate" it would be different scenarios with more older kids (late elementary and middle school). And the responses choices are not much more sophisticated than beginner. So if you already have the beginner Social Detective don't spend the money. But if you do not have any Social Detective products this is very useful and kids love it.

We are so happy that you love using the Social Detective products! This new app is designed to dig deeper into scenarios to illustrate a higher level of understanding by having the user make smart guesses to predict what people might do and say in certain situations and even attempt to predict what happens next. Thank you for your feedback!
