SoilIQ – Soil Temperature

Know when to plant, water, mow

Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

Sand and clay hold water very differently. SoilIQ now reads every moisture answer against your own soil, and says nothing at all where it cannot tell. Stop Guessing. Plant by Soil. SoilIQ™ tells you when to seed, plant, water, mow, protect, or wait, using the two numbers that actually decide what happens in your ground. Air temperature tells you how the day feels. Soil temperature and soil moisture decide whether seed germinates, whether roots grow, whether a pre-emergent barrier holds, and whether today's watering helps or hurts. KNOW MY LAWN Build your Lawn Profile with grass type, sun exposure, irrigation, soil type, drainage, foot traffic, current condition, and a custom lawn name. Today's Lawn Read combines your Lawn Profile with soil data and forecast trends into one recommendation on the Today tab. Tap it to see why it triggered and what to do next. SOIL AWARE WATERING The same moisture reading means opposite things in sand and in clay. SoilIQ measures root zone moisture against your own soil's wilting point and field capacity, so dry means dry for your ground. Forecast rain is weighed against evapotranspiration and weighted by probability, so a light chance is not banked as a soaking. When the root zone is holding all it can, SoilIQ tells you to wait. SOILIQ CALCULATOR Plan what to buy. Measure what to apply. - Product Rate Calculator - Nitrogen Calculator - Grass Seed Calculator - Mulch, Soil & Sand Calculator Save calculations to your Journal, share image cards, or log them as lawn activity. LAWNIQ LawnIQ™ is a soil-powered lawn advisor built into SoilIQ. It turns soil temperature, soil moisture, forecast trends, your lawn profile, and recent activity into clear guidance. Use LawnIQ to understand: - When to mow - When to water, and when to wait - When to seed or overseed - When heat stress may become a concern - When rain may change your plan - When pre-emergent timing windows may be approaching LAWN ACTIVITY & FIELD JOURNAL Log mowing, watering, overseeding, fertilizing, aerating, pre-emergent, rain, field notes, photos, and seasonal observations. SOIL TEMPERATURE AT MULTIPLE DEPTHS Readings at 2, 6 and 21 inches, calculated to exactly those depths. Seeds germinate near the surface. Roots live below. 14-DAY SOIL FORECASTS Soil temperature trends for seeding, planting, watering, and frost protection. HISTORICAL GDD TRACKING Tracked crop Growing Degree Days calculate from the actual planting date using historical weather data, not just the forecast. PLANTAI FOR 160 CROPS PlantAI™ asks two questions before calling a crop ready: is the soil warm enough today, and is enough season left to finish before frost. Home garden crops come first, field crops in their own section. Crops started from seed get a verdict. For the rest, SoilIQ says so plainly rather than inventing an answer. SAVED LOCATIONS & PROBE CALIBRATION Track conditions across your lawn, garden, plot, farm field, or client site. Calibrate readings against your own probe, per location and depth. APPLE WATCH, SIRI, WIDGETS & LIVE ACTIVITIES Check soil temperature from your wrist, ask Siri without opening the app, and pin readings to your Home Screen, Lock Screen, and Live Activities. PRIVACY-FIRST No account required. Your location is used only to fetch soil and weather data. SoilIQ does not sell your data, and core features work offline from cached readings. Export your full history at any time, because your records are yours. SoilIQ 2.5.5: Two Answers Is One Too Many The last update taught half the app to read your soil type, and said so. This one finishes the job. Watering, mowing and the best day to plant now account for whether your ground is sandy, loamy or heavy clay, so the app no longer gives two different answers about the same soil on the same screen. And where it cannot tell what your soil is, it now says nothing instead of showing a number that looks like an answer. What's new: - Every moisture reading in the app is now judged against your own soil. The same number means a soaked garden in sand and a thirsty one in clay, and every screen now knows the difference. - Where the soil survey has no data for your address, moisture is left out rather than shown as a colour coded number. An honest gap is more useful than a confident guess. - Watering reminders can now be found and turned off. Settings lists every reminder you have, with its garden, its crop and its time, and a Stop button on each. You can reach it whether or not you subscribe. - The Soil Health card stops answering when it has nothing to answer with. A reading it cannot judge now shows a dash rather than a tick or a cross. - The Soil Health card reads one soil and one temperature throughout, so the ring and the four readings beneath it can no longer disagree. - If you decline the location prompt, the app now tells you what happened and offers a way forward, instead of waiting quietly forever. - The moisture chart is scaled to what your soil can actually hold, so a waterlogged reading sits clearly above the wet line instead of at the top of the chart. Fixes and improvements: - The Today screen could tell you to plant now while saying, a few lines below, that the soil was dry. The planting prompt now reads the same soil as the rest of the app, and tells you what is missing instead. - A watering reminder could keep arriving for a garden you no longer have saved, with no way to stop it except turning off watering reminders altogether. - A soaked lawn could read that moisture was holding well, and the advice to stay off wet ground could not be reached at all. - One screen showed two different counts of good planting days, and days later in the forecast were called ideal with no moisture data behind them. - Sandy ground could show a healthy moisture tick while the soil was holding more water than it can drain. - A moisture percentage was shown, and colour coded, for places where there was no soil data to interpret it. - A missing soil temperature produced a red cross in one place and a dash in another, on the same card. - The seedling frost card quoted a colder temperature than the warning it appeared on. - Six crop tips gave a planting temperature that disagreed with the crop's own. Watering, mowing and planting advice may read differently after this update, because they now account for your soil type rather than one range applied to every garden. Where the soil survey cannot tell us what your ground is, moisture is left out of the advice rather than guessed at. Stop Guessing. Plant by Soil.
