  • Great game sega. Marvelously done

    MasterGaurdian000

The game has been made centralized on the one trademark sonic move that is best suited for the iOS. The spin jump. The game is a homage to that of Doodle jump with a good old fashioned sonic twist. This is a good game also because what is different between them is the ability to use power ups, and these can also be used as much as it takes to get to the goal. Another difference is the ability to use sonic's friends, each with their own ability to bring to the table, through a quest completion type level up system you can unlock the ability to spend the rings you have banked to purchase iOS device wallpapers, useable characters, and power ups that can be used on demand instead of having to use the In level item pods just trying to find the item you wish. You can also purchase in app the ability to double the rings that are collected in the level. All in all, this is the perfect sonic game for the iOS that could ever be thought up.

  • Needs an affordable update

    MrVariant

This is a fun game though it is cheap in some spots, like jumping on a spring that is just under spikes you can't see nor react to unless you memorize the level. However, the part that really gets me down is that needing to be on level 17 for Tails and level 20 for Knuckles is ridiculous (unless you want to be price gouged for $21 to unlock everything). You do missions such as a number of enemies to defeat or double jumps to do and they take forever to go up levels. At least the game is playable with powerups that can help you like the net to give you a second chance if you fall off the level. You automatically jump vertically on tilt controls that work pretty well but get used to having to hit enemies only from below. If they did a sensible update to add characters, levels and reduce the requirements for unlocking (going past a certain level or being at a low level like 3 or 4; I was at level 6 when I was in the last world). Lastly, the music is a bit of a letdown for this game too, especially if other Sonic games spoiled you.

  • A surprisingly solid jumper

    Shakza

One thing about this game that I find fascinating is that it makes a semi-bold statement: it WASN'T Sonic's speed that made him so good in the Genesis/Sega CD era; it was the platforming that made the games so memorable. Speed just happened to be one of his tangential abilities, and often caused Sonic more harm than good since once you got Sonic to high speeds it was hard to control him, both then and now. By removing Sonic's horizontal speed from the equation, this fact becomes obvious in this minor distraction from the main series. However, I will ding the game for repeating the overall Doodle/Mega Jump formula, to a little bit of a fault. But the game is solid despite this issue, and while it doesn't have Sonic's speed, it has his platforming ability, and isn't that what Sonic's games are all about? Platforming? If that's your thing, this is good, and add a star. If it isn't, then go play Sonic CD instead. It's not bad, and shows a side of Sonic we rarely see, but it's not for everyone, and its mechanics are unoriginal.

  • I am now a Shardlight fan :)

    Tom "slowbro"

Yeah, both Shardlight games I've played (Sonic Jump and Sonic Dash) are pretty good. This game is a fun diversion, not the most fun thing on iOS but well worth its low price. Sonic doesn't seem particularly fast in this game, but I guess he doesn't always have to be.I like it very much that Sonic Jump has a story mode with lots of predesigned levels, unlike many platformer-ish things on iOS where everything is randomly generated. And the levels have a good difficulty curve. Also I like how they're organized ... beat a boss, and it's your choice whether you want to go to the next zone or climb into harder levels in the current zone.Having in-app purchases is fine with me. I actually applaud this game for having a $21 "unlock everything" purchase, since without that I bet unlocking everything right away would take a lot of busywork and cost a lot more than $21 (I think). And it's great I will eventually be able to play as Tails (and other characters) without in-app purchases. My only complaint is that Sonic Jump's levels have too much emphasis on flipping platforms and disappearing platforms ... aim for a platform and it may not be there by the time you get there. I don't enjoy that.

  • Amazing Spinoff title

    Sonofx51

This game is quite addicting and remains challenging as long as you don't use power ups(by that i mean buying them!) There's a lot here for everyone, Jump clone fans, sonic fans, and people who need to kill time. I'm using an older itouch and there's no performance issues at all despite the crisp and pretty graphics and superb sounds. The controls are as you'd expect however the turning needs to be more sensitive. I dont like having to jerk my ipod at a high angle left or right, leading to a sore wrist. The level design is varied enough to keep things interesting, forcing the player to make a route, know when to double jump and understand enemy abd trap placement, it really is a vertical Sonic game.My only other gripes other than the low sensitivity is the enemy hitboxes are a smidge larger than they are. Hitting a spring while double jumping results in not getting the amount of altitude you should get, making it impossible to reach platforms high above it. Sometimes it still goes just high enough so the springis out of view, making it an impossible to avoid death unless you have the bounce back. I'm not really a fan of mobile games, but this one is one of the few exceptions, well worth the couple bucks! Just needs some tuning and it'll be perfect.

  • It'd be great if the sound controls on the program didn't force me to listen to sonic

    Valkyrielee

So when I first got the app I gHad no issues playing music while playing and it was great! But since the last two updates I can no longer run music from my iTunes on my iPhone 5 while playing. Whether I have the master volume on the game on or off and even if I start the music whilst in the app as soon as game play commences the game commandeers the sounds system and stops my own music. I don't want to listen to the sonic theme while I play and I think turning the sound off is evident enough of my desire. So it would be more than a little nice if the app would allow me to use my own music again. I love the game but was my own music with it when I'm playing on the go. Not being able to use my own music far lessens both my desire to play and to buy more apps from you guys.

  • I'd rather be playing Sonic 06.

    LaudedSwan

In the first few levels and in the arcade mode, it feels like a well put together Doodle-Jump-style game. Then, when they tried to make it harder, I've literally found places where if you come up from a certain platform, all of the sudden (without warning) there is an impossible jump with no way around it but restarting, and, for example, in Level 7 of the Blue Sky Zone, there are times when I'd go to hit Eggman but instead would hit something behind him, get hurt, and then not be able to hurt him. I get being invincible after getting hurt, but I don't get the point of just having no collision with enemies to the point where you can end up inside of one when the invincibility ends. It feels broken, and although more polished looking than Sonic 06, it seems like some kid in middle school (who thinks that Sonic 06 is a classic Sonic game) could make a better version of this in Flash.

  • Fun and ever challeneging

    PBJA89

I was skeptical about this gameplay idea for Sonic but not only I was wrong about it and that Sonic Jump it works well but the features and challenges makes this game worth while to keep playing. So far, there's absolutely nothing wrong or buggy about this game. Just wanna throw some suggestions to make it better. * First, I'm hoping Sega will update more playable characters like Shadow, Cream the Rabbit, Marine the Raccoon (Sonic Rush Adventure for DS) and the Chaotix crew Vector, Charmy and Espio.* Special Stages mode by discovering hidden stages in one of the levels of each zones and upon completing them by collecting enough rings, defeating enemies and/or reaching a certain height limit will earn you a Chaos Emerald and various bonuses.* As mentioned from the Special Stages and more characters idea, when you collect all 7 Chaos Emeralds and beating all levels in Story mode, you'll unlock and play as Super Sonic same goes for Shadow/Super Shadow when you play as him.So thats just it. More playable characters, levels/zones, achievements, Special Stages with 7 Chaos Emeralds and playable Super Sonic/Shadow.

  • Truly a breakthrough.

    Cat in CT

This is a wonderful game that even exceeds the original doodle jump! With tons of awesome features and stunning power-ups it is basically a better game. Anyone can have fun playing this especially Sonic fans. Multiple playable characters makes the game twice as fun, and the quests you need to complete in the game always give you something to do! If you don't like the idea of endlessly jumping up like in doodle jump, well this game offers a story mode when there is actually an end to a level, but you may still select arcade mode. With even more updates and features coming up in the future, it is definitely worth the purchase!
