Welcome to down home cooking in downtown.

Do not give your money to any overpriced joints that profess to be soul food. Instead head further north for the real deal at Soul Vibez using a throwback font reminiscent of “Soul Train.” The food is consistently delicious, and that is important. Hot food preparation ends at 9p. The bar is wonderfully stocked. Once I try what the bartender can do I will update this review as needed. Desserts are top notch. The lemonade needs an award. And the service and throwback jams seal the deal. Updated outdoor seating provides privacy from Chicago avenue traffic. The bathrooms may need an attendant to keep it pristine and stocked. Oh yeah, they have a vegan partner restaurant serving vegan versions of Chicago favorites, maybe one day for the ‘gram. Respect the neighborhood when you visit. Keep your growling stomachs at a low volume please.

Inaccurate information and food delays

This is my second pickup and I have had issues BOTH times. The first time we placed an order onsite. We received acknowledgment of the order and was told another message would be delivered when ready. Due to space issues we sat in the car. We NEVER got a text that our food was ready. When I came back in to check my food had been sitting and waiting (so my tomatoes were cold). I expressed my concern and didn’t get much of an explanation.
We placed another order today online 10 minutes before the restaurant opened. The website said the order would be ready at 1:45. I called just before 1:30 to check and was told the order had just come up. I expressed that I put the order in before 1 and received an message that it would be ready at 1:45. I was told my order would be ready at that time. Needless to say it wasn’t ready at 1:45. It wasn’t ready until 2:10 and that was after my husband came in expressing concerns. There was NEVER a message with an updates. The server offered 2 lemonades which was a nice gesture. However-if my order didn’t include drinks, do you really think providing them to make up for a 30 minute delay was a good option?
I have taught customer service in corporate environments and I must say BOTH of these instances were definitely teachable moments. Hard to really enjoy your food when you’re frustrated about having to wait. Lunch break ALL SCREWED UP-as I was late getting back to work.
