Good WHEN It Works

The app was excellent then about 6 month’s ago it started getting weird. The app has a tendency to either A) self turn off the log in by fingerprint toggle, requiring the user to enter a complicated password by memory, B) keep the fingerprint setting active BUT automatically delete the stored password requiring the user to enter a complicated password by memory or C) all of the above.

Additionally the app will NEVER allow the user access to stored passwords which once again triggers the above unwanted behavior.

I called support and was told to delete the app and reinstall but reinstalling requires the user to input the password.

The whole purpose of having an app is convenience but, the behavior noted above is anything but convenient for those of us who can’t remember 70 different passwords for websites & apps which each have their own unique set of character requirements. At minimum grant access to stored passwords. This situation is particularly annoying when away from home for an extended period where the ability to check balance and pay a bill might be necessary.

Please fix this.

Not necessarily about the app but the bank itself

I’ve been with SS for a few years and the bank policies in general aren’t bad. If you like having your card blocked so you can’t make any payments then this is the bank for you. I live with a roommate and when it comes to paying rent, I have to send him money through a money transfer app (cash app, Venmo, PayPal, etc). I will make consistent monthly payments through these platforms and then random months it’ll block the payment for “suspicious activity.” Of the 15 months or so I’ve been living in this apt, my card has been deactivated roughly 5 times, causing me to call the customer service line and request the card be reinstated. Not just with rent, any large payment you make, it’ll shut it down. Luckily for me, I almost only make payments outside of their call hours so I get to wait till the next business day for my primary card to be usable. After being told “oh, this shouldn’t happen again” half a dozen times gets really old especially when it constantly happened over and over again. I wish we had a system in place for rating company’s instead of having to talk through the app. I will definitely be making the switch away from SS ASAP.

Does exactly what I need

I moved my business banking to South State a few months ago. My one requirement was ability to do mobile deposits. The app does that very well. I set an alert to text the account balance daily. If needed, I use the app to review transactions so I immediately know if something is not as expected. Works great and the branch manager is always available to help. Recent update to the app now takes the check photo automatically. Love it.
