  • Lovely, with difficult flaws

This game hits the nostalgia button right on the head. It has beautifully retro graphics, lovely music, endearing characters, and a ton of love. For the price, and the fact that it's a mobile game, I think the length is totally fine. There even are some limited secrets to find if you want to extend it a bit. I feel that not mentioning the nearly-impossible mechanics in chapter 9 (or forgiving them as difficult "on purpose," as some did), is to excuse a crucially frustrating flaw in the game. The touch controls and real estate of a phone simply make it nearly impossible for those of us who are a bit clumsier in the fingertips from completing the level. There is a need to scroll and tap simultaneously, which is very difficult. I felt when I got to that puzzle that all the fun and enjoyment I had up to that point came screeching to a halt. It's worth noting that I did not have any trouble with the dog level, like some did, and actually found it a fun challenge. Chapter 9, however, can only be described as painful. It's a worthwhile game, nonetheless, and most deserving of the few dollars they ask for it. I just hope concessions can be made to decrease the unnecessary difficulty for those of us who have more trouble with the small screen. At that point it would be an easy 5 stars.

  • Nice game but...

After hearing so much hype about this game, I have to say I'm a little underwhelmed. I really want to like this game, I really do. It's got all I want in an adventure game. And, I know the subtitles are there, not only for story-sake but also to clue you in on future puzzles. I'm not a fast reader, but i feel not having any control over the speed of the subtitles is a little pretentious on the dev's part. I know, some people would complain if they were too slow or if one were forced to tap their way past them. And yes, I know games of my youth were very much like this. But at least said games were nowhere near as fast as these subtitles move. To me, they just didn't think that aspect through...at least not beyond the blatant mimicry of age-old text games. I've tried making it through chapter 1 but did not continue since I'm missing half of the subtitles due to my average reading skill. Waiting for an update. I gave it 2 stars because even though I like the game, one of the major elements of the experience is lost on me. I know I'm not the only one who has mentioned this. Please revise.

  • It's *supposed* to be frustrating at times.

A lot of the negative reviews complain about the controls being inadequate for the more difficult chapters. I'll admit that I had to replay Chapter 9 and the the final chapter quite a few times, but the game was already under my skin by that point. The controls are what they are. Part of playing any game is learning the boundaries of what's possible. You have to work within those limits. After I'd completed the game, I was glad that I wasn't able to breeze through -- the experience went by too quickly as it was. This game does a great job of putting me back in the 80s, when games of this kind were state of the art. I, for one, welcome a return to story-based gaming that doesn't allow you to make a certain task easier by earning or buying your way out of them. Kudos to the developers for putting out a piece of playable art.

  • Frustrating and unintuitive

I wanted to like this game. It seemed like it would be right up my alley, but it just makes me mad I got to level 4, had absolutely no idea what to do, and quit. - The levels give no indication when you're at the edge. You have keep swiping to see if the scrolling stops. This game is crying out for a mini map. - The screen doesn't scroll with the player characters. When they got to the edge of the screen, I assumed they were at the edge of the map. Turns out the only way to know that was to (again) keep swiping. Automatically scrolling with the characters would make this better. - Selecting more than one character with a pinch gesture is awful. If they aren't close together it doesn't work. - In level 3 there was no indication that the character you meet behind a barrier is controllable. I walked around for 10 minutes before accidentally tapping on him. - The characters walk way too slowly. Double tapping to run would be nice. - The dots representing off-screen characters are sometimes wrong. In level 4 you have to find a vehicle that is in the top left. When the map is focused in the lower left, its dot is NOT green, meaning I don't think I can control it, or even know its existence. I only found out about by searching for a clue on the Internet. - The color palate so far is boring and repetitive. - Do I really need to see the same names in credits over and over again? I get it, it was just two of you making this game.

  • A Very Enjoyable Game

I played this on an Ipad so the control issues others seem to be having must not be so pronounced on a larger screen. I have played through the game once, had to look up one achievement (sometimes I forget how these games work... ) and over all had a blast. The story is crafted pretty well and the interface is fine. I'll probably play this from time to time just to enjoy the graphics of certain scenes throughout the game. I also enjoyed the soundtrack quite a bit. Nothing wrong with this game and priced just right. If you're having second thoughts about getting this game, just remember, you probably paid more for a cup of coffee this morning and got less for your money...

As others have noted, the graphics and dialog are fun, and the music really shines.Enjoyment of the game is dampened by the inability to skip through large amounts of dialog when you play chapters over again (which you'll need to do in order to get the bonus score items). There are times when your goal is unclear and you basically need a lot of trial and error in order to figure out what the game wants of you. Finally, the controls, particularly in Chapter 9, are not up to the task of what the designers want you to do, so it becomes needlessly frustrating. There's a lot of love put into this game, and I'd like to see it succeed. I hope the developers are willing to make a few needed tweaks to improve the experience.
