Description

US English voice version of Speech Sounds on Cue!

Speech therapy treatment software for articulation difficulty caused by apraxia of speech or other speech difficulties. The aim of this app is to increase the intensity of treatment for people with apraxia, combining J. Rosenbek's integral stimulation approach with B. Hill's carrier phrase facilitation drills.

This is the US version of the application, with all audio and video recorded by the US speech pathologist Terri Nichols, MS, CCC-SLP, Clinical consultant to Bungalow Software, Virginia USA who also recorded for the Windows/Mac version.

This application shows how to produce speech sounds and words and encourages speech, even in people with severe speech difficulties. This easy to use iPad application contains over 500 videos, sound clips and colour photos designed to help adults and children to produce the consonant speech sounds in isolation, in words and in sentences. Now includes recording, playback, rhyming words and randomisation.

This software is especially helpful to those who need to hear and see a sound made, for example, patients with motor speech difficulty due to speech apraxia (verbal or oral apraxia affecting speech).

Provides multimedia full-motion video cues, for independent speech practice. Cues are for individual phonemes (sounds) as well as full words.

Each exercise targets one word, divided into 20 consonant
positions. For each exercise it provides:

* Color photo
* Auditory and written trigger phrase
* Written word
* Video clip of a speaker
* Records and plays back patient's voice with model sound for comparison.

This app enables intensive independent practice for Motor Speech Disorders, with immediate auditory feedback.

A worthwhile speech app

I like this app for additional practice on speech sounds. There are three choices for practice; basic which allows you to choose one sound, random which allows for multiple sounds and a rhyming area. The basic and random selection are in three steps. First the basic section shows and gives instruction on correct production then moves to a short phrase "grapes grow on a vine." The random section goes right into the phrase for the sounds you have selected. Each phrase has three short clips that highlight the target word. A clip with production of voiced word, second a clip of production without voice and lastly an area where the user can record the production. The rhyming area has 4 photos of words that rhyme with the initial sound that you choose (/b/ = bee, key, pea, tea). The app does not allow for data collection but I don't see that as a deterrent from downloading this one. One thing that I really like is the recording step because there are no buttons to touch prior to recording...the microphone appears and the user begins their word production. A future update might increase the picture size on the screen and allow for more than one voiced model. Definitely a worthwhile articulation app. ACTbyJackieBryla

Videos are a great start

It's good, but for a specific kind of user, so keep that in mind. It could be improved to make it more universal. The video modeling aspect has made this very useful with some of my young students. They absolutely love hearing their voice recorded too. I love how you can jump to any word in the list; however the app has some caveats- it would also be much more practical to choose exactly which words to use in a session- this way I could use the next button to jump to the next word I had chosen, instead of going to the drop down list each time. Another big issue with this lack of word selection, is that some of the words are not appropriate for use in a school setting- the words are geared toward adults. I am glad to have it, but for the price it really should have more flexibility- data tracking, ability to save "profiles" of some sort with a student's sounds would be super too, for example. Still a valuable tool for the videos with instructions on how to make each sound.

Outstanding therapy tool

I used the lite version of this app and thought for a long time before purchasing the full version, but it is worth the investment. I work as an SLP in schools, and currently use it with two students who have dyspraxia, and one with Down Syndrome. All love it, and as all have intensive services, it's great to see them motivated. The fading cues are perfect; the students try to Imitate the word and the mouth movements without being prompted, and they all enjoy the recording feature that lets them hear their production of the target words. I had questions prior to purchase, and the customer service was prompt and friendly. The only reason I am not giving a 5 star rating is that it does not save data, so I still need to record performances the old fashioned way. But, many books and kits cost more than this app, and none have been as fun and effective as this for those kids who need a lot of specific speech therapy.
