Description

SpiderAI helps you to identify spiders in your environment. The application provides general information, including how venomous a spider is, thus allowing you to discern how dangerous a spider may be. Once you provide the application a picture from your phone’s camera or photo library it uses a neural network to automatically classify your spider. This classification is an estimate provided by the network and will be subject to error.

The application also provides general information on the classified spider (along with all spiders in the SpiderAI database) including a picture, Wikipedia description, and potential threat information. Material presented on the application is for entertainment value and should not be construed as usable for medical advice (regarding bites, etc.). Please consult licensed professionals for such information.

The application also provides connectivity to iNaturalist so that you can share your spider observations with the broader community. Submitted spiders provide more data, which in turn improves the classification performance of SpiderAI.

Awesome!

This app is awesome, but a little scary (maybe because I’m afraid of spiders?) This will be my go to app out in the garden from now on.

Can’t give less than 1 star or I would (I’d give negative 10 if I could)

I downloaded the app, then took a picture of a spider. I uploaded the image and tapped “classify spider” and the app crashed. So I took another picture of the spider, uploaded it and tapped “classify spider” and the app crashed again. So I took a third picture of the spider, uploaded it and tapped “classify spider” and the app crashed yet again. I tried removing the app and reinstalling it, then I uploaded the photo one more time and tapped “classify spider” and the app crashed again.

Kind of pointless to download an app that seemingly only exists so you can have the icon on your home screen. Don’t waste your time with this one! The icon is kinda cute, but unless you want an app that’s more for just lookin at and not actually using, it won’t be worth waiting for it to download.
