Explore how design studio SPIN’s wire lettering inhabits the space between legibility and abstraction in augmented reality, and share your creations.
Wire is one of those strangely uncelebrated products that the modern world couldn’t exist without. No copper wire – no electricity.
Notoriously used as a weapon against humanity – it contains, restrains and imprisons. It can provide an almost insurmountable barrier. Barbed wire is an icon of war. On the creative side, the Egyptians and Greeks used wire for jewellery and decoration, the sculptures of Ruth Asawa and Alexander Calder are well worth a look. As part of ‘SPIN PROJECTS’ (design studio SPIN’s digital space for self-initiated projects), the WIRE AR app let’s you experiment with wire typography in space. Place the letters in your surrounding and through a change of perspective see them morph from elegant, quirky letter forms into abstract lines and squiggles.
