  • Great for traveling

    <redeemed>

I travel for work and almost always need extra monitors. I looked at buying one of the clip on ones for my laptop but realized I carry my iPad everywhere. This app handled everything I needed to do and I don’t have to carry extra electronics through the airport

  • Doesn't work with Windows 10 and absolutely no customer support

    Jricle

This app is supposed to allow you to use your iPad as an extended display. The problem is that the Windows 10 desktop app -- Splashtop Wired xDisplay Agent -- is messed up so that it sets the resolution of the extended display much too high for an iPad. It think that your iPad is a full-size monitor which causes everything on it to appear almost microscopic in size. Unless you have bionic eyes or use a magnifying glass to view the extended display, this is basically useless. The desktop app supposedly allows you to adjust the resolution (by opening the Windows 10 screen resolution settings), but the problem is that the resolution for the extended iPad display is grayed out. It is impossible to change it. To make matters worse, I have been attempting to contact Splashtop's technical support now for ONE FULL MONTH and have received no response. I opened a ticket on 1/8. It is now 2/7. I have followed up three times and have not received so much as an acknowledgement from a human. Bottom line is that this app and its developer are both worthless. Avoid this app -- there are other choices that do that same thing. I will be contacting Apple to request a full refund.

  • Works a million times better than Duet when using premiere pro on windows 10

    InternCat

I suppose duet is still more technically better than XDisplay; it uses less CPU on my laptop, runs at higher resolutions at better quality and smoother frame rates. However, whatever technical wizardry the duet team came up with crashes my computer whenever I open premiere pro, which is pretty much the only software I’d want to use with an iPad as a monitor. XDisplay is leagues better than Duet in this regard, since it actually “works”. At a lower price than nearly every other competitor and the most reliable app for this use case that I’ve used so far, I have to give it a 5 star review. I do hope it’ll receive some updates to make it run better and at less CPU usage, but I’ll take a reliable second monitor over 10% extra cpu headroom any day. Some requested features:Give us the option to turn off the touch screen. I’ve already turned off the touch screen in device manager on win10 through disabling the “HID-compliant touch screen”, though it’d be better to have this in app. Why does the app behave as if it’s locked in full screen? On a 3rd gen iPad Pro, this means you have to swipe at least twice from each edge in order to activate their respective functions. Pulling down the control center, swiping in a slide over app and pulling up the dock are all much more difficult to achieve due to this implementation.

  • Nice, but...

    True_Gauntlets

I bought a laptop nearly a month ago because I went around 28 months without a functioning computer. This app enabled me to have a second (or possibly third) display as I may need. It hasn't been updated in 3 years from what I can see, so that's one thing that should be discusses, because what if I decide to upgrade my iPad and iOS whatever upgrade renders this app useless? That is not what I wanted to bring up, however. This app is nice, but... (lol) but what if I wished to use a particular pen for drawing? On this laptop, I've installed Clip Studio Paint (formerly Manga Studio) and Photoshop. I've dabbled into art and am kind of getting back into the swing of things. If it hasn't been requested, I'm requesting the pen functionality that comes with any wacom pen connected to this tablet; pressure, tilt, etc. If you should already have this functionality, then what pens are compatible with it? I request a list. This is kind of a long-winded review. This app will likely get a 5 if pen functionality is added.

    Developer Response

Hello, thanks for the comment! I will let our development team know your feature request of stylus pen. If you have anything else that you will like to add, please go to https://support-splashtoppersonal.splashtop.com/hc/en-us/requests/new and submit a request for us!

  • Incredibly useful, works like a charm

    NGHTFVRY

This honestly works so well for me. I don’t have a second monitor for my PC, but now I can keep discord up on the other screen when I’m doing stuff for easier monitoring while I work from home. It even functions quite smoothly with video! I’ve tested with a discord group video chat, and Twitch streamed for about 5 hours using it as my second screen and its honestly more than I could have ever asked for from a free program. Love that it’s wired, not WiFi. Keeps the connection smooth. Literally the ONLY downside I have with this program is that I had to install iTunes on my PC so that the PC side of this program had the toolkit to function. I don’t enjoy having iTunes on my PC since the update to apple that split the music off into its own app discontinued it. Functionally though, the app works great, so that’s not taking off a star for the actual rating.

  • Works great with iPad Pro and Windows

    Mr. E Hammer

Summary: This app is fantastic! It’s totally free, makes my iPad Pro a spare touchscreen monitor, and after the initial setup (which was a little tricky), it works easily on the first try every time I connect. I appreciate this software SO MUCH! Thank you developers!!!!HW Configuration: iPad Pro connected to a 64-bit Windows 10 PC through USB-C.Tips for Setup: Make sure that you have properly installed Apple Device support software. The PC version of the app will tell you if you don’t have this installed when you try to run it, and it’s included in iTunes (which is free). Alternatively, you can install that support software directly without iTunes, and google can help you with that. Additionally, if after setup your iPad only displays a copy of what your computer displays, press the windows key and ‘P’ at the same time, then select extend displays. Other than that, the installation is simple!

  • What I Needed and Want!!

    MDTkinglaw83

It does what it says it does. It took some time to get it up and running but when it works it works. The only problem I had was ensuring both devices were being charged rather than one device charging the other. I’d suggest using a dock of some sort with PD (power delivery). I’m currently using a Baseus 9 in 1 dock and it powers both devices. Also I would suggest using a usb-c cable that supports data and power as well (Using ROG Ally charging cable) All in all this app works great and before leaving a review I’d suggest checking your cables and making sure all your connections are correct before condemning the software. FYI sound comes from original device not connected device..my suggestion would to use earbuds or an Bluetooth speaker.

  • Pretty decent

    wongleeonline

So this was the perfect solution for my situation since I was restricted by space. Having the ability to just plug in my iPad and use it as a second monitor is really nice. I even play games on it and it has okay response time I wouldn’t play an fps but playing an mmorpg on it performed just fine. What does bug me a little is how the mouse flickers when moving around but I can live with that considering I didn’t have to buy another monitor. Watching videos and pretty much anything I could throw at it worked just fine. I have a pretty high end gaming laptop so I’m not seeing any issues like some of the other reviews. So thank you for creating this wonderful app it’s truly amazing to be able to use my iPad like this.

  • Great way to upcycle my old iPad

<Troubleshooting for Windows 10 detailed below>I've got a 2nd gen iPad that has been collecting dust for years, as many new apps are not compatible with its antiquated version of iOS. One day, I got the idea to start using it as a second monitor for my Windows 10 laptop, and the results have been great. After some initial troubleshooting (details below), I have been very pleased with this FREE app that allows me to continue using an otherwise obsolete iPad and saves me the cost of buying an external monitor. A huge boost for productivity and big savings for my wallet and the environment! My only complaint is that the app did not maintain a connection with my PC using the default settings. It would disconnect about every 30 seconds. An online forum suggested going into the program files on my laptop and adjusting the compatibility settings for the laptop software. After switching this program to Windows 7 compatibility mode, it has been working flawlessly on my Windows 10 laptop.C>Program Files (x86)>Splashtop>Splashtop WiredXDisplay>Agent>SWXDAgent>Properties>Compatibility >"Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 7"Thank you for this great app!

  • Best free app

    hijmmjjnnnn

any type of app that does this require payment which is really stupid in my opinion in this app doesn't really well while still being free. This is the best one that I've used and I love the option to be able to connect it using USB to lightning there is a little bit of latency but it's something that you have to get used to. It's not like you're gonna be gaming on this thing, it's just like a monitor and a message the devs would be to fix the scrolling issue. It just moves the mouse whenever you try to scroll or swipe your finger on anything other than that this app is pretty on point
