Description

Splice is the premiere database app, now with a free 2-week trial. From Oracle to MS Access, MySQL to PostgreSQL, DB2 to Azure, Splice can connect to, query, and update all the major databases in the cloud or on your local network. No longer do you need to be a SQL wizard or relational expert to run queries and reports against your organization's data.

Designed from the ground-up to be fast and efficient, Splice combines the power and flexibility of an enterprise-class database tool with the speed and elegance of a truly native Mac app. Combining the user-friendless of a consumer app with enterprise-class encryption and security, Splice boasts the following features:

◆ Powerful query editor, enabling you to write complex filters with no SQL required
◆ Results are loaded on-demand, so queries execute almost immediately even when returning millions or rows
o Syntax-aware raw SQL editor, for full query power
o Browse database schema components, from columns to key and indices
◆ Database configuration editor with numerous advanced database connection options
◆ A dozen built-in connectors, as well as the ability to connect using any JDBC driver jar
◆ SSH tunnel support for accessing databases behind firewalls
- Query Bookmarks & History
- Supports an unlimited number of simultaneous connections
◆ Multi-tab support enables an unlimited number of concurrent results to be views simultaneously
◆ Sleek "Dark" mode for macOS Mojave
- Export query results in CSV, TSV, SQL, or JSON
- Edit multiple rows simultaneously, with customizable transaction control
- Database driver updates and security fixes (with Splice Unlimited)

The limited mode of Splice enables unrestricted connections to file-based databases in the Microsoft Access and SQLite format. In addition, the free 15-day trial of Splice Unlimited enables access to a variety of enterprise-class data sources installed on your local network or in the cloud, including:

• Oracle
• MySQL
• Exasol
• MariaDB
• PostgreSQL
• CockroachDB
• Microsoft Azure
• Amazon Redshift
• Microsoft SQL Server

Good start but too expensive

I would probalby had paid $40 for the app but not a yearly subscription. What are they thinking? I'll stick with VirtualBox and SQL server Manager.

This works great with Access files. In fact, I had one that was supposed to be secure but this connected to it anyway. I was not able to connect to a SQL Server. I searched for a solution but found no examples of actually using this with SQL so maybe there is an issue.

Queries are pretty straight forward but there is no intellisense or any suggestions. It defaults to case sensitive.

While you can edit data the edit boxes are too small so you have scroll with the cursor if they are mutliine.

Overall, decent tool but way too expensive just to connect and query data.

Great UI

I’ve tried most of the database clients on the App Store, and the thing that sets this one apart is the very friendly query builder, which let’s me build up a large query step by step. You can jump back and forth between the query editor and the SQL editor to see the SQL that is being created. The only downside I’ve found is that bookmarking the query doesn’t seem to fill it back into the query editor when you re-exeute the bookmark, which is annoying. Also, it doesn’t seem to handle joins between tables, but it does work well on views.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for the positive feedback. We are working on enhancements to the filter editor to allow the generation of joins, but do note that joins are generally supported by the app by using raw SQL.

Simple & Fast

Straightforward app for connecting to multiple databases. Seems to be one of the few with the ability to connect to Oracle. The only major shortcoming is a lack of SSH tunnel support, which I need to access my DB from outside my org’s firewall.

Developer Response ,

We are thrilled to announce that Splice 1.2 now supports SSH tunneling to most major databases, including Oracle!
