What’s New

Version V3.4.3

1. Update the SportDiver app version number in the app settings menu.

2. Bug fixes that may cause the app to close or hang-up on some iPhone models.

3. New White Balance menu with options for Auto, UW Deep, UW Shallow, and Manual. UW Deep (greater than 25ft/8m) and UW Shallow (less than 25ft/8m) are color-correction filters for deep diving or shallow snorkeling. Use white balance color filters as an alternate to the included red filter - Don't use both at the same time. Set white balance to auto when using a photo-video light. When white balance is set to Manual, use the Temperature and Tint settings to manually adjust color balance.

4. Add Aspect Ratio setting with options for 4:3 (default) and 16:9. The Aspect Ratio setting only applies to photos. Videos will always be recorded using 16:9 aspect ratio. When using 16:9, the Image Format setting will be locked to JPEG.

5. Photos and videos are saved in portrait orientation when the phone is held vertically. When the phone is held horizontally, photos and videos are saved in landscape orientation.

6. Add HEIF to Image Format settings. Supports JPEG, HEIF, ProRAW, ProRAW+JPEG and ProRAW+HEIF. ProRAW is only available for iPhones 12 Pro/Pro Max and up. HEIF files (High Efficiency File Format) use a more modern and sophisticated form of compression than JPEG, but may not be compatible with some photo editing software. HEIF and ProRAW is not available when Aspect Ratio is set to 16:9.

7. The Picture-in-Video (PIV) function has been relocated to the Mode button. During video recording, push the Mode button to capture and save a photo.

8. Updated Video setting with options for non-HDR video format. HDR (High Dynamic Range) is recommended if you are not editing your videos. HDR is also known as "Dolby Vision". Apple only supports PreRes with HDR.

Absolutely loved this until I upgraded to v.2.2

I have had this housing for 2 years and it is ridiculously easy to use. Used my iPhone XR until recently and recorded some incredible photos and video. Puts the GoPro to shame for ease of use.

2 days ago I upgraded to v2.2 and now it consistently crashes. More to the point, the pressurization window no longer comes up when I connect to Bluetooth so I can’t properly waterproof the housing when I insert my phone. It went from a dream to a nightmare in a matter of minutes. I should note that I recently upgraded from by X to a 13 but it was working fine until I updated the app. Please fix any bugs so I can get my housing back before my next dive trip!

***UPDATE 9/8/2022*** Hi Bassman, Please update your app to version V2.3, which is now available in the App Store. That will fix the issue. If you find any bugs, please email quality@sealife-cameras.com. Thank you.

Hi Bassman, Thank you for your review. We have found a lock-up bug that seems to be isolated to the iPhone 13 series and using the RAW+JPEG app setting. App programmers are working on fixing this issue right away. By the way, if you are interested in becoming a beta tester, please email Quality@sealife-cameras.com. Thank you.

Camera no longer taking photos, but taking videos

I’ve been using the SeaLife camera housing for 5 months with my iPhone 7+. Now suddenly the camera function in the app has turned itself off. The phone still takes photos fine but the SeaLife photo function is simply not responding. This happens even when I use the app by itself without the phone being inside the housing. The camera icon remains grey and unresponsive. I can’t find any reference to this problem in the helpline and no human being to contact. I’m very disappointed! Best regards Penny Johnson, Barbados. Update - the iPhone 7+ needs to update to iOS 16. However iOS 16 is only available for iPhone 8 and upwards so I suggest the Developers either change their software to accommodate iOS 15 or change their advertising for this item. Once this is done, I’ll change my Star rating to 5, as my experience with the equipment prior to iOS 16 was fantastic. I thank them for taking the time to respond to my issue. Penny Johnson, Barbados.
2nd update: the Developer has indicated that they will change their advertising, so I have gone ahead and changed my rating accordingly.

App freezes - Don’t try to scroll through pics/videos too fast

So here’s the typical scenario. Meet in the morning to go diving and you want to show someone a pic or video you captured the day before. You try to scroll through a bunch of pics/videos fast to get to what you want to show him/her. As you are quickly scrolling, the App freezes and you’re moments from stepping on the boat. The only way to fix the problem is to close the app and power cycle the housing; therefore, you can’t use the camera on this dive or dives until you get back to a dry place to open the housing, close the app, power cycle the housing, restart the app and then reseal the housing and wait for the pressure test to complete. This has happened to me twice in 3 days of diving and has happened several times before.

I was about to invest in a Sealife tray, lights, etc since the iPhone 12 Pro Max takes stunning pics and video, but with an app that doesn’t work properly, I am now researching other options.

Developer Response ,

Hi Ripcord,

Thank you for your comments. There was a scrolling playback bug with app version V1.0 but app version V2.0 fixes that issue. Please update your app and let us know how it works out. If you still have this crash bug, please contact us at quality@sealife-cameras.com. Let us know what iOS version is installed on your 12 Pro Max. Any bugs will be promptly fixed. Thank you.
