Ever since I started using the creators app, I noticed that it is a great way to manage your podcast on the go. My favorite feature is being able to check out the analytics and Number of plays per episode. I also like being able to share each episode individually on various social media platforms to promote and distribute my show. my favorite feature overall however, is this app is 100% voiceover accessible. As a user who is blind, I like how I can do everything I need to such as promote my shows and check out my analytics without having to worry about any lack of voice over accessibility. The fact that they considered voice over accessibility is a huge plus in my opinion. the one suggestion I would like to make is I think that the ability to record directly from the creators platform should be an option. I feel about removing that feature that took away a lot of creative freedom for those who do not want to show out money for the Riverside app. I do realize Riverside is free, however, heavily ability to record edit and distribute all in one place would be a huge convenience and it would be a huge plus for those who do not want to have multiple apps on their phone.
I used to absolutely love this podcast app. It was my reliable workhorse for everything from recording to editing and even lining up guests. The beauty of it was its simplicity. Launching my podcast and growing its audience felt genuinely accessible thanks to its intuitive design and all-in-one functionality. However, recent updates have completely stripped away the ease of use that I once cherished. What was once a streamlined process for getting guests on my show now requires downloading a separate, clunky application. This adds an unnecessary layer of complexity, which is incredibly frustrating when you're trying to gain momentum and connect with new voices for your podcast.Furthermore, the once straightforward editing features, which allowed me to quickly polish episodes directly on my phone, have been significantly complicated. The mobile editing experience is no longer the smooth and efficient process it once was. It's disheartening when an app that was once such a valuable tool undergoes changes that actively hinder its core functionality. What was once a simple and effective solution for podcasters has become an exercise in navigating unnecessary hurdles. While I have fond memories of the app's previous iteration, the current version has unfortunately lost the very qualities that made it a standout choice. If you value simplicity and an all-in-one podcasting workflow, you might want to explore other options.
I am impressed with this kind of instruction! I first heard about podcasts through my church for sermon’s etc. —- but I never caught on to the practical personal aspect of producing one’s own podcast. Then I started listening to a tv program and still do, called “God Friended Me”. (All about an individual starting his own podcast and helping people that God or someone doing it in His name brought to his attention) Love the TV program and the idea of Podcasting, but still did not connect the concept to a possibility for me until recently while doing FaceTime video with my Son and two grandsons who are stationed in Daegu, South Korea with the US Army. During FaceTime on my IPad with them last night my Son asked me if I would like to hear the boy’s podcast they were doing with their father on their favorite subject “Starwars movies”. I was surprised, impressed and specifically enjoyed watching it “with them” because how proud the boys were about their first Podcast production. I was impressed by what they had done. This morning I saw the invite to download the app “Anchor” to continue keeping updated on my Grandson’s podcast. “A & A”, which are the initials of their first names, Andrew & Alexander. While I am not sure what kind of podcast I could personally do or would want to, I am intrigued with the possibilities since I am interested in e-bike riding, music like Jazz and blues harmonica, making videos of my bike rides, Biblical Theology etc etc. I am age 79 and a retired Army Bandmaster. Even if I never do a podcast for myself I will be at this time interested in my Grandson’s podcast for sure. Thank you for your introduction to podcasting and would be interested in you advice or help. Leon R Wyatt
The fundamental of the app is such a phenomenal idea. One place to record your podcast that covers distribution. I’ll admit I’ve been on the edge of starting a podcast for some time now, and hearing Gary Vee talk about this app is what inspired the download and the start of my podcast. However, and this is a massive however. I can not stand the fact that Anchor feels that they can just brand themselves all over my content. Anchor has no right to play their advertisements over my content on iTunes, or brand themselves on my Facebook posts. The content and education that I’ve spent my life building doesn’t belong to anchor, and if your creating an app as a solution for some gaps in the market space that’s fine, but don’t try to claim that your app the reason why people are able to have a podcast. I’ve just uploaded my last episode through anchor and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone because of this branding issue.
Developer ResponseHi there and we're sorry to hear about your disappointment with any Anchor branding on your podcast. Keep in mind you can remove the post-roll via your Anchor settings now and we do plan on continuing to look into these options and allowing our users alter them as needed. More updates on the way in the future but we appreciate the feedback! We hope to see you continue to use Anchor as we continue to allow more customization and features.
It’s a great app and it is EXTREMELY EASY to navigate and utilize on the go, and to basically publish an entire podcast with NO ISSUES, but I am currently running into one BIG ISSUE right now. If you record on a tablet, or attempt to migrate from one device to the next, the system glitches and thinks you’re making a brand new podcast for the first time, this is VERY FRUSTRATING as it does NOT make it seem less between on the go recording with a mobile device, and at home recording on a pc. I have an account already set up with active episodes, but I was not home so I decided to record on my iPad, but when I finished recording my episode, Anchor believed that this was my VERY FIRST podcast and episode simply because I am using a new device, even though I am using the SAME LOGIN information. Because I had to setup a brand new account (since they app thinks it’s a new account because of the new device) it made me delay my second episode release, as I did not think logging into a new device with the SAME LOGIN INFO FOR THE EXACT PODCAST I AM ALREADY DOING ON THE PC AT HOME, was going to need to be setup again like a brand new podcast. What’s worse is I don’t even know if the information will cross over to all the devices I am logged in under; I might have just recorded an episode that I have no way of monetizing because again the app thinks I am a brand new user, when I already have an account setup and adds on, but this episode I made I guess falls in limbo somewhere and is not appearing on my other devices, only on my iPad. This issue is a big issue and needs to be fixed, right now I am at the mercy of HOPING it will all sync up and have the drafts available for editing on the pc and my other devices.
Developer ResponseHi there, thanks so much for letting us know about this! That does sound frustrating. Based on what you are saying here, it does sound like you may have a few different accounts by accident. If you submit a request with our support team we can be sure to get it sorted out for you! https://help.anchor.fm/hc/en-us/requests/new
I have been using this app for about a year or so, it worked pretty good up until about 4 months ago. The editing tool seemed to develop a major issue. I would make my cuts, and playback to ensure it was accurate. But after I saved my edits all the cuts are off by a few seconds, which really screws up the audio. Once you save changes there is no going back. I hoped the recent update would fix it but now there is an even bigger problem. I record my podcast in segments and listen back to each one before saving and ensuring it’s uploaded. I make sure this is done before moving on to record my next segment. While this takes forever it has ensured everything is accurate and if any one part gets corrupted I only have to redo one short segment vs the entire podcast. But today, I finished recording the last segment (out of 4) and found that my first two segments suddenly show a failed upload and when I press the reload button it still doesn’t come through. I had already checked 30 minutes before and all previous segments showed completely uploaded and ready to playback. How did are they suddenly not uploaded? Why won’t it reload? I used to recommend this app to everyone but after 4 months of increasing issues I give it one star.
I have gone through the list of troubleshooting; updated browsers, tried multiple browsers, used the app on my phone and iPad, made sure that was updated, emptied the cache, uninstalled and reinstalled...and I still am having such a struggle to just get my first episode live. First problem I faced was when I recorded for the hour limit it failed to process. Ok, I’ll cut the audio in half and edit each half...minor annoyance. But then I spent 6 hours precisely splicing and trimming one half of the recording and when I went to review it before continuing, it was all chopped up and jumbled up. I assumed I someone hit something wrong so I did it again....I have attempted to edit parts of it even, and it still gets all jumbled and edits out pieces I didn’t splice and remove and even swapped parts of the audio that were in the same segment that couldn’t have gotten swapped. After 9 hours of working on this I finally decided it isn’t user error and it’s just a buggy system. I love everything about the app concept and I just hope they fix their editing software to make it truly user-friendly so I can finally start getting my content out there.
Let me just say I do love anchor and what has done to my podcast and helped me do what I’m doing, been with them since I was only able to do 5 min episodes. But for several weeks now there has been constant updates I would say or crashes on the site and app, in which has been messing with my releases of my episodes. I got an email back saying there was an update going on in which I was unaware, but then it happened again and then the following week again and as I’m writing this review it just happened again. I don’t mind the update but it would be nice to let us know when it will happened so I can plan in advance to release the episode or schedule it in time instead of just not being to be able to do either. This has interrupted my consistency of my release dates in which I was force to choose other days but it happened to me again today. I’m only writing this review because with this pandemic I don’t get an answer until like two days later, I would appreciate at least a little knowledge on this part. Besides that anchor has most definitely exceeded my expectations on my podcast so I hope this will keep on going. Thank you
This is a great app to get started on creating podcast. My friend and I just got approved for Apple podcasts and pocket cast in a matter of days! The only thing keeping me from giving it a full five star review are the two following problems. The first one, the app needs to include a way to trim unnecessary audio recordings. There has been plenty of times where we are 15-20 mins recording and we get distracted by something and end up recording 2-3 mins off topic and guess what? We have to record again since we can’t trim the audio recording! That is very frustrating. The second problem, whatever the app does it kills my phone’s battery! No joke! Just today we recorded a 11 min episode and my phone went from 86% to 58% that was unbelievable. And before you say it must’ve been something else..no I have background data restricted on all apps with exception of Anchor, Mail, Clash Royale, and Play music. When I launch this app I close out of everything and only laugh this app and I connect to WiFi. Once those two problems are taken care of I will gladly change my ratings!
I’m a bit dumbfounded. You have to hold down on the record button to record, and as soon as you let go with your thumb, it stops recording and go straight to a published now page. It does not allow you to add on to that recording. Another way you can record is by putting the phone up to your ear. Once again when you pull the phone down it starts recording starts trying to publish that podcast. Let’s hope you don’t have to scratch your nose or something. This app sounds so compelling with its meet up with other people with similar interest in the group or joint podcast, but these fundamental basic user issues are beyond my ability to comprehend. I’m sure it’s there somewhere, but I couldn’t even find a delete button to delete my first random scratch audio take. Is there any other app in the world where you have to physically be touching the record button on the screen for it to record? Am I missing something? With the rating of over four stars I’m just really confused.
Developer ResponseHi there and sorry for any trouble or confusion here. If you press the record button down and slide your finger up, it will lock the recording into place so you don't need to hold it down. There should be a tip when recording that states that but if it's not showing, let us know so we can get that fixed up! And if you're having any issues at all with deletion, just tap the '...' icon next to the audio in your 'Profile' tab and that will let you delete it. If you have any further trouble just email support@anchor.fm so we can assist!
