Description

Physical-modeling audio synthesizer integrating a Haken-Audio Continuum and Expressive-E Osmose remote control

SpringSound is a physical-modeling audio synthesizer that produces sounds by simulating interactions and vibrations of a set of activators and masses connected to springs. The model offers detailed control of an array of features including: gravity, bouncing, fluid and static friction, mechanical limits, non-linear functions, and more.
SpringSound is provided with a very large set of sound presets that you can tweak and save.

Small video introductions are available: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1GF7HkSV9c and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdYuZ07nmRo
And an audio demo of some presets: https://soundcloud.com/christophe-duquesne/demopresetspringsound

It can be used as a sound generator or as an effect using its Audio-In feature, opening a new world of physical modeled effects. It is fully Audiobus® 2 and inter-app audio compatible, and manage state saving.

SpringSound can be controlled by a standard MIDI keyboard and directly from the iOS device screen. It is complete with the new MIDI MPE (expressive MIDI) and therefore can be controlled by most expressive controllers like the Haken Continuum, ROLI Seaboard, Linnstrument, Madrona Labs Soundplane, etc.

SpringSound app is designed for optimum use with the Haken Continuum (www.hakenaudio.com) and integrate an IOS Continuum Remote (iPad only) allowing a very comprehensive and accurate remote control of the Continuum from your iPad (access to all parameters except programming the Eagan Matrix).

SpringSound has be designed to explore sounds domains you won’t be able to access with other synthesis technics. It expands your sonic palette with a new world of physical sounds. It is a rich musical instrument, a sophisticated sound-design tool and an entertaining sonic playground.

SpringSound is the big brother of my former Ackorage-Spring app.

Connectivity Issue

I picked up an iPad and a WIDI Jack from CME with the intention of making the customization and performance with my Continuum more simplified. That proved to be necessary since I have an Osmose here and the Haken Editor (a MAX application) was clashing with the Osmose editor on my MacBook Pro.

My thought process was to use the MacBook Pro with Haken Editor to work with the Osmose and use this app to work with the Continuum (keeping the two worlds separate and thus allowing for editing both devices at the same time). An added benefit would be the capability of editing my continuum without needing to boot up my laptop and load MAX.

Sadly, this app only seems to work with a wired USB connection. Whenever attempting to use the WIDI Jack; this app gets stuck loading the Continuum’s presets and is unable to proceed with allowing me to interact with anything. Thus - this app is not entirely useless to me, but it is not what I was expecting and this leaves me with a less than ideal solution. The app has an option for Bluetooth MIDI connectivity, so I don’t believe that I’m using it in a manner which is inconsistent with how it was designed to function. I just wish that this will be fixed up one day.

Great physical modeling, needs AUv3

The control surface is expressive but quite sensitive. I’d love to utilize the patches and controls via a more traditional MIDI controller. Hoping the developer adds AUv3 support so that’s possible on apps like AUM rather than just Audiobus.

Good Engine for foley FX artist

Great synth with lots of control over engine for natural sound design of springs, metallics, slapstick, FX and things that fly through busy kitchens, or go bump in your utility drawer. It can be used to design foley sound FX or melodic harmonic pads. The interface was a bit unusual at first with the pinballs, but plays a part in the physicality mass and velocity.

Thanks for the 2017 update!

I use it on my iPad Air 2 iOS10.2
