Description

Standard Notes is a private and secure end-to-end encrypted notes app. It allows you to write and sync your notes across all your devices, including your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and web browser.

Private means your notes are end-to-end encrypted, so only you can read your notes. Even we can't read the contents of your notes.

Simple means it does one job and does it well. Standard Notes is a safe and lasting place for your life's work. Our focus is making it easy to write notes wherever you are and syncing them with encryption to all your devices.

Our users love us for:
• Personal Notes
• Tasks & Todos
• Passwords & Keys
• Code & Technical Procedures
• Private Journal
• Meeting Notes
• Cross-platform Scratchpad
• Books, Recipes, & Movies
• Health & Fitness Log

Standard Notes comes free with:
• Seamless sync across all your devices, with easy to use applications on iPhone, iPad, Mac, web browsers, and other platforms.
• Offline access, so you can access your downloaded notes even without a connection.
• No limit on number of devices.
• No limit on number of notes.
• Passcode lock protection, along with Touch ID and Face ID protection.
• A tagging system to organize your notes (like #work, #ideas, #passwords, #crypto).
• The ability to pin, lock, protect, and move notes to trash, which allows you to recover deleted notes until the trash is emptied.

Standard Notes is completely open-source, which means when we say your notes are encrypted with industry-leading XChaCha-20 encryption, and that only you can read your notes, you don't have to take our word for it. Our code is open to the world to audit.

We made Standard Notes simple because longevity is important to us. We want to make sure we're here, protecting your notes, for the next hundred years. You shouldn't have to find a new notes app every year.

To sustain our development, we offer optional paid subscriptions which give you access to powerful tools like:
• Productivity editors (like Markdown, Code, Spreadsheets)
• Beautiful themes (like Midnight, Focus, Solarized Dark)
• Powerful cloud tools including daily backups of your encrypted data delivered to your email inbox every day, or backed up to your cloud provider (like Dropbox and Google Drive).

We're always happy to talk, whether it be a question, thought, or issue. Please feel free to email us any time at help@standardnotes.com. When you take the time to send us a message, we'll be sure to do the same.

Best Note App Available

I used to use Apple’s “Notes” app but found it wasn’t built with proper indexing. Meaning, if you started to have a good volume of notes, its search and processing, in general, were very slow.
Standard Notes was built the way this type of all should be. I have it on both my laptop and phone. Any changes I make on one immediately sync to the other, which has been incredibly handy and helpful on several occasions. Apples “Notes” remains to be not as reliable to do so.
Additionally, the security on Standard Notes is higher than any other note taking app.
To the point that it records your login email address with case sensitive. To be honest, because of this, one time I thought I was using the wrong password. I’ve been coding professionally for over 20 years and know that the email address should never require case sensitive entry. That’s my only complaint about the app. Even their own staff doesn’t seem to realize it is because I once contacted them about login issues. I had to figure out that it was case sensitive on my own.
This app also allows tags and other options. I think the design could be improved on how it visually organizes your notes for you. But, it is still my favorite note taking app because of its security, amazing immediate syncing, and excellent indexing. So much so that I bought their 5 year subscription when they offered it awhile back. I foresee myself being a lifetime user.

Thanks for the kind words and 5-star review!

I'm sorry about how we weren't able to deduce that your account was created at a time where the registration process did not include a provision for changing the characters of a new user's email address to lowercase. This issue shouldn't affect new accounts, so please let us know when you've created yours by editing your review or simply reply to us and we can look into it and make sure that the issue was fixed. If you'd like to change your email address to one in all lowercase, you can export your notes (tags, and other items in your account), delete your account (https://standardnotes.org/reset), import them without being signed in (via the Account menu of the web and desktop apps), and then register with the same address and select the option to merge your locally stored notes to have them synced to your new account.

We plan to significantly overhaul the UI and UX of the apps. The design work is largely laid out, but we plan to approach implementing this carefully. We are also going to add some especially useful and much needed features in the meantime. :-)

Thanks so much for supporting us by subscribing to Extended!

Never thought I’d review a notepad app!

You would think something simple as a notepad application would be hard to mess up but then again i do have an apple product. The notepad that comes with my phone is absolute garbage, constantly crashing, bugging out and black screening making me lose notes and yet was so basic in functions, and dont get me started on the fact every time i hit save in the notepad it sent me an email to a hidden inbox that had thousands of entries. Meanwhile this app has a fantastic layout with proper editing tools and customization, never crashed, never blank screened on me, just all around what I EXPECTED from the one that came with my phone, but more! I only use the standard free plan because i dont have much use for the plus features but the price isnt bad and tools would probably be great for someone who needs it. All in all I highly recommend this notepad app!

Seems like a pretty cool app.

It seems like a pretty cool app, but here’s my problem. Recently I decided that every app that hijacked me and made me touch my screen and answer a question before it allowed me to use the app that I installed to be able to use when I wanted to use it would get a revie from me, But a negative one. This has required me to use more of my time for something that seems trivial, but if everybody followed suit and did the same, how quickly would some of our favorite apps stop doing the things that everybody hates, another pop-up demanding your time. Content creators please listen the old adage “no news is good news“ maybe something you might want to consider. For those that may have constructive criticism and some good ideas to share may also be able to click on the “contact us” link in the app. And the ones that have neither the time nor the intelligence to locate such a link, are you really wanting their feedback unfiltered and made public? I do not create apps on this platform, so maybe it’s actually the App Store that forces its way into the app and demands a rating. If that were the case then my apologies again to the creators of the app but my point remains valid, if enough people started leaving one star reviews because of the invasive polling methods then possibly even Apple would conclude that that method is not only unappreciated but ineffective and would stop forcing it down our throat’s.

Developer Response ,

Sorry to hear that. I'm afraid that this is something that is largely out of our hands as we do not set or control the frequency (other than potentially being able to disable the prompt completely) or the time when the prompts appears. This is our first time seeing a similar report made for our app, so thank you for taking the time to leave this review!

Please take the time to consider revising the reviews for this app and other apps as each review can help or hurt the team behind the app.
