Description

The official Star Trek: Lower Decks idle game!

Finally, after yet another tedious duty roster, the Lower Decks crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos is ready to party at a Zebulon Sisters concert! Tendi's even more excited, as this'll be her first Chu Chu Dance! But first, they need to get through routine training exercises on the holodeck, which Boimler has been entrusted to organize. Boimler? With power? When has that ever been good?

Impatient to get to the dance, the crew try to end the simulation only to find the Cerritos’ computer has been hijacked by rogue AI Badgey. He’s locked them in the holodeck and deactivated all safety protocols – so now Boimler, Tendi, Rutherford and Mariner must work through Star Trek stories, both familiar and new, so they can return to the real world. But be careful – if they don’t succeed, they’ll die for real. And even worse: they’ll miss the party!

Good idle clicker, good Trek writing, I’d pay for no ads!

‪It’s good for an idle clicker style game. Also love the writing, I feel like they captured the voices of the characters well. There’s elegance in the Lower Decks game being an idle clicker about menial tasks, but idle clickers only have so much depth. I want more game depth!‬ Even one or two more things where player choice matters over waiting would be very welcome.

The events are too short (or milestones too high) to the point you have no chance to earn the milestone rewards before they end without paying money. I get the ranked rewards driving people to spend, but the milestones it’s just feel bads not getting them. Maybe aim for free players earning 75% of them instead of 50%? Then I’d be more tempted to spend a couple bucks to finish them off.

Besides all that, other games of this style let you buy a no ads mode for like $10-20, absolutely more than you’re earning off my ads right now. I’d totally do that for this game, but it just isn’t offered as an option!

Kinda fun, but incomplete and buggy

This is a fairly fun idle game that’s a slight variation on this type of game (I call them zig-zag games, not sure if the genre has a name). But after a while progression gets very, very slow, which makes it boring. It seems to be incomplete, too, because if you go into the settings, about half the options are disabled. It doesn’t even connect to Game Center, which is a very basic thing for games to do. There are some interface bugs to where some elements will be behind others and you have to scroll to just the right place to interact with them. Plus, there are arrows that will scroll you to something you need to collect, or whatever, but they get stuck on the screen and will take you to a building that is not ready to collect. That gets really annoying because they flash, in an attempt to get your attention, and you basically can’t get rid of them.

Don’t even bother with events. Only the top 20 players get a decent reward and you won’t get anywhere near that unless you spend lots and lots of money. Even if you start an event the moment it becomes available and have the multiplier from watching ads going the whole time, and do nothing else in life but play this game, you’ll still not be anywhere near the top 20. They need to break it down by percentages, rather than just the top 20 players. As more people play this game, casual players will have absolutely no hope of ever getting anything from events.

Developer Response ,

Hello, Lower Decks Captain,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the Star Trek Lower Decks' game progression, options being greyed out, and the monetization model. We're working on making the game the best it can be, aiming to improve it by bringing more fun and challenging features soon!

About options on the settings being greyed out, they are correlated to our upcoming account linking and cloud saves feature. We're currently working on getting account linking and cloud saves available, so stay tuned to our social media for updates!

We're also looking at different ways for players to enjoy game progression whether in the main game or events, even if they choose not to make purchases.

I'd love to hear any more feedback you may have at lowerdecks@mightykingdom.games

Thanks for your support, 🖖

Honestly a nice experience

Didn’t annoy by inundating itself with pop-ups and in-app purchases. I LOVE that this game isn’t ridden with ads like fleas; Any interaction with them is done at the player’s discretion, which is a choice I respect in the face of a game that does want to draw an honest profit. Another game might make them appear by force as a marketing tool. There is character in choosing otherwise.

Progression doesn’t fall off even later in the game. The steps forward feel quantifiable and impactful. Having played many idle games this does not suffer from over-complication or blind greed. The attention put into this game’s story feels more akin to a passion project that reasonably wants to make back the funding it was granted. It’s just an honest way of producing something for a large scale IP like Star Trek, and it’s nice that they did a good job of it.

Also helps that it has loved characters in Lower Decks’ unique art style. It is a collection I admit to enjoy building.
